Best Game of 1996.--Gamest magazine, Japan

Street Fighter Alpha 2, one of the most successful 2D fighting games ever, is available 60% off on GOG.com. That's only $2.39 for the next 24 hours!

Street Fighter Alpha 2 features many iconic Street Fighter characters like Chun-Li, Ryu, and Zangief, as well as some new challengers from the Final Fight series. For the first time in history, Sagat can face Sodom and Ken can beat the living hell out of Guy. Or maybe the other way around? All eighteen hardcore contestants are in their peek fighting shape, so just about anything can happen! Prove yourself in eight subsequent matches, discover your secret rival, and face your ultimate opponent. Let the tournament begin!

In 1996 Street Fighter Alpha 2 graced our screens as one of the last 2D fighting games with classic graphics. With the astounding animated backgrounds, and perfect character design, this game is a monumental achievement in pixel art. If not for anything else, the aesthetics alone make it an obligatory addition to any fighting game fan collection. Apart from the looks, it brings some fresh ideas to the table, replacing the Chain Combo mechanics with free-form Custom Combos, and introducing separate Alpha Counters for punch and kick attacks.

Kick hard, punch fast, and launch devastating combos in Street Fighter Alpha 2, for only $2.39 on GOG.com! The offer will last until Tuesday, February 5, at 10:59AM GMT.

With this, we're kicking off with our new GOG Gem Promo schedule. From now on, you'll get two of them every week: a classic title will be discounted each Monday, while Wednesday will give you a discount on one of our newer titles. This way, both indie and retro fans get a Gem each week!
Finally GOG found a way how to make sad Mondays a little bit better :)

morciu: So is there any way of playing this online? I dont really have anyone to play with at home :(
avatar
F4LL0UT: Sadly that's unlikely. The game itself only supports local offline multiplayer and AFAIK DosBox still doesn't have the functionality necessary to play this sort of game online (while some emulators for other systems already have it, so there's always hope that it will be possible some day).
damn :( guess i'll have to pass on this one then

JMich: Which has been changed to every week for the last 3 months or so

Ghorpm: Exactly! Where have you been keeveek?! Anyway - welcome back to reality ;)
Apparently, I live outside time :P
avatar
keeveek: Every week, or every second week? Gem promos were usually on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month.

More like six months ;-)

Ah! I was actually able to correct JMich on GOG.com-related trivia. I shall cherish this moment.

But of course. If I keep correcting you all the time, what's the point in playing? :P

What do you mean this isn't a game? Then why am I here?
Fightin games ain't my cup of tea, but nice promo for those who want this. Also great to see that we'll be gettin 2 GEM promos a week now :D

That's one of life's deep questions, man.

G-Doc: Since some of our users prefer classics and some are here for the indies
I do hope that "indies" and "new" are not synonymous. :p

I've been holding my breath for the next Assassin's Creed type deal for a while now... and I'm quite blue at this point ;)
New GOG Gem Promo schedule is awesome :D
this sort of scared me that it's Wednesday and i haven't noticed, thought i lost a couple of days

One of my ex co-workes used to say: "If you wake up on Sunday and you don't have a headache it means it's Wednesday". And he was a living example of this saying. Guess why I called him ex co-worker ;)

Your Ex (co-worker) sounded nice. =)

Edit. there's 2 things I don't need in gog. 1. tolerance 2. This deal when I don't have the money.

Cool, another gem promo for boring mondays!

I'm not much interested in Street Fighter, but I will probably buy it to encourage Capcom to bring more games to GOG.

Hoping for a Miasmata, Retro City Rampage or Pid promo on wednesday now.
I want more Capcom titles on GOG.
nice, finally more deals. but GOG, why don't you just adopt daily deals? you know it's inevitable.
