Is there any reason why the latest batch of GOG installers is installing things to C:\GOG.com instead of C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG.com? Because now I've got two separate installs for Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri, instead of the new install cleanly overwriting the old one.

I've got a huge number of GOG games in my Program Files folder and I don't want to have to uninstall and reinstall them all to make sure my games are all in the same place. What can I do to make the installers default to Program Files like they used to?
The reason? It's generally a good idea to install games outside of Program Files. It creates problems for people.

Also, some games refuse to install in a path that includes a period.

If you don't like that change the path in the installer.
You shouldn't. "Program Files" is a highly problematic directory for older games on newer operating systems. They should be installed outside of it.

C:\GOG is just a suggestion. The 2.0 installer is actually pretty smart and will remember any path you change it to.

You might be able to change the directory to "Program Files (x86)" with a trick - the first 2.0 installer prevented the input of parantheses, but they could still be hacked in with a trick. I don't know how the current version of the installer handles this. But, I repeat, you really shouldn't do this. Move your games to a single non-protected folder, it will be a bit of a hassle, but you'll have a substantially lower risk of running into problems afterwards, and the 2.0 installers will automatically default to this new path.
Is there any easy way to just...move my old games to the new directory, then?

That's what I do. I didn't know PF was a problem untill these folks told me.
OOPs that didn't answer your question...sorry.

Yes. Uninstall the game, re-install to another location. I use a completely different drive for all my games.

If you're thinking of a simple copypaste, then....

Most of them will work if you just move them, some may require changes in the registry.
