It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

After Step 2 press "this button" and wait a moment - then the code appears on the left side of the page, in the middle of text..
Interesting.

You could also attach the database to a chat system for even more shenanigans :P

There should be more to it than that. Either it will tell you to enter a password if you left one out, or it will give you a whole page telling you how to verify your account.

My guess is that the server timed out before it finished sending the page to you. Something's been killing the server lately, and it's been causing problems with the site. Maybe try again a bit later and see if you get through.

Lexor: Well - what about if some guest will use name of actual user?

I haven't posted as guest, but are guest's names somehow restricted?
That's a good question. I hadn't considered guest accounts because I didn't realise that GOG let you post as guest.

I've done some investigation and guests cannot use the name of an existing user. A guest can however create a GogPM account with a name that is not yet in use on GOG, but if someone later creates a GOG account with that name then the GOG user can claim his name back from GogPM at any time. So guests cannot prevent you from using your username, but could potentially cause some identity confusion if you join GOG and then find out that somebody has already been using your name to send messages to people.

It looks like I can keep guests from validating accounts by having the website check their validation post to see if they are using this avatar. I'll implement guest-protection this evening.

Signed up, thanks Monkey! Great idea, i appreciate Your work!:>

When do we leave beta?:P
What happens if I systematically request a new password on everyone's accounts? Do they get locked out? i.e. is it vulnerable to DoS attack in this manner?

The old password still works, from my accidental testing.

Good question. Requesting a new password doesn't affect the account at all until the password request is validated, and that can be done only by posting on the GOG forum. So you can't DoS anyone that way.

That's good to hear :) Nice to see others think of these things too!
I keep getting the message: "We apologise, but we were not able to find a post on the forum that matched the one you needed to post to verify your account. Please try again." when trying to sign up. :(

I'll try again a bit later, hopefully it'll work then.

Please do, you have a message waiting for you. :D
5 minutes did the trick. I could register now :)

I feel like a horrible and impatient person now. Also stupid, very stoopid! :P

I've made some updates to GogPM! Here's what's changed:

1: GogPM now has a new permanent domain: gogpm.barefoot-monkey.org.za
2: My hosting company seems to have fixed the server problems that we were experiencing recently
3: Fixed potential password problems caused by the server being configured with "magic quotes" switched on. Ugh.
4: You can delete messages that are sent to you
5: You can now see messages that you have sent as long as they haven't been deleted. I'll experiment with different layouts. Right now I'm trying out a single mixed list
6: You can see if a message that you have sent has been read by the recipient
7: You can also now unsend messages that you have sent if you do so before they get read.

If you experience any troubles registering or logging on then please let me know and I'll see what I can do to help.
