I don't even own a tablet, but it would be pretty sweet if you could play some of those older games on a tablet, I've used friend's and family's and while I think the whole tablet craze is a bit stupid, it would be a smart business decision on GOG's part. Also, I would probably have a better chance at getting to share some of GOG's classics with friends and family, where they would probably be more willing to try playing with me in the comfort of a couch and with a convenient, small and easy to use tablet rather than a bulky laptop or desktop likely having to find a comfortable desk and chair to get properly comfortable.

Stupid idea? I don't know just throwing it out there, haven't really thought about whether it's feasible. I guess I was thinking people could connect keyboards (or mice if preferred, though the touchscreen accomplishes the exact same thing) up to their tablets or perhaps only certain games that would work well with the touchscreen such as rts games. So basically, you could download a GOG app to your tablet and certain games would be tablet compatible (some of these games might be too resource intensive, or otherwise incompatible with a given tablet). These games would likely have to be emulated as if they were being run through windows or DOS (the former is less likely to be possible obviously, but emulating the dinosaur age old games is probably very doable). As far as legal stuff, I have no idea and this would probably be the single greatest wall against something like this happening. Publishers would likely just consider distributing their game within the tablet's main distribution service.

I could actually see that. Some games not so much but there are a few here that (while I'm in the same tablet boat and opinion as you) I could picture having a blast with on one.

Goblins would be great on a touch pad.

Most of the games here are designed for a traditional mouse and keyboard. There is a certain amount of better precision one gains with a mouse than with a touchscreen, especially when you are pixel hunting.

I don't see the harm in allowing mobile games on here, as long as they don't let in shovelware.

I think it is a good idea for GOG to start selling games for mobile devices other than laptops and netbooks, yes.
It would probably work for TBS and point-and-click adventure games.
Touch screens work for point and click games (I have Broken Sword, Monkey Island and a few others on mine), but they are horrendous for anything that needs speed.
Anyone who has Super Hexagon on the PC and tablet can tell you that the PC version is better because the game is completely visible, rather then being buried under fingers or thumbs. I bought it on HB thinking it would be a great game for when I am traveling, but I cover too much of the screen that you need to see to make the next move on the tablet, where as on the PC it is a real time sink of fun.

There is a reason that so many App games are simplistic in their game play. Just you try and imagine playing Hotline Miami on a touch screen, or even a racing game. If you can still see through the smudges on your screen then you still have the terrible mapping of where you fingers go.

No, NO NO.
GOG should keep to the PC games, if a PC game comes out designed with touchscreen interface capabilities, like some do with 360 controllers and they want to sell it then fine, but I would rather we continued to get the best PC games that are in fact PC games and not go around bringing App games here for tablets.
LSL on a sticky touch screen.

Agree.

I think when gaming sites start branching out too much instead of sticking to what they're good at, quality suffers massively.

Look at GamersGate. They pretty much allow anyone to sell games there. Needless to say, they have boatloads of crap that should never have seen the light of day and a significant number of games that simply don't work.

I just bought a tablet and, while it's useful for accessing the internet when I'm not at home, I don't use it for much else as my PC is simply faster and better. Plus I'd hate to play games on a 10 inch screen, when I can play them on my 20 inch screen with my PC :)

This +1. Most mobile games are pretty much shovelware ...
While in general I think it's a good idea to support as many platforms as possible, there are some major technical issues here. Basically, touchscreens are a terrible control scheme, and there's not a whole lot to be done about that for the moment. Using a stylus can help with some of the issues, but compared to a gamepad or KB+mouse it's just not very good for gaming.

At least, not for the games GOG currently has in its catalog. It's fine for Bejeweled and Tetris and whatnot.
If GOG started making games for ios, android, and even windows mobile, that would be grand.

Many old school games are now available on either tablets or cell phones. Some mobile ports are better than others, but it's as risky as any other platform.

Since many old gems are indeed computer based it makes it a tad more difficult, but not impossible, for touchscreens.

GOG does such a great job of providing games that are available for newer operating systems, so why not mobile? It would only open up a new market opportunity.

All that said, it probably will happen eventually, but it would most definitely be DRM free and you'd be able to access your "shelf" remotely at the local Starbucks or your job's break area. You could play it on your PC, your mac, or your mobile device.

One game, owned forever, on every platform possible for it to be on... What more could you ask for? (aside from games always updated to newest windows and others added for mac)

For now I think mobile, despite it's skyrocketing popularity, is still a very new format, not just a new operating system. Many GOG games were on PC's way back in the 1980's. That's nearly 30 years of gaming evolution... tablets and smartphones have , what, 6 years? At least since the first iphone became a commercial success (2007 I believe).

Just be patient, and it will happen.

Touchscreen tablets are already perfectly supported.

Just buy yourself one with Windows 8.
