Well practially

Personally I never really got the fanatical appeal of the game, it was adequate but nothing special, that said I'd probably have bought it just to have another go & see if my issues were with the game rather than the godawful controller
Shame, a re-release/remake would be awesome.
Ah well, there's always Perfect Dark? Kind of?
Its just another example of publishers refusing money. Doesn't matter if you like it or not Goldeneye will sell and sell extremely well just on its name alone. Publishers these days seem to care more about exclusivity deals than actually making money. Something that will eventually bite them in the ass.
Goldeneye was an awesome game. though I guess being a British Male (and therefore automatically a bond fanatic) made it even more awesome.
For one thing Goldeneye was an awesome comeback for the bond franchise. For another I was at Uni at the time.. so we all had great fun with it. (going to the opening night in tuxedos and cocktail dresses (not both at the same time), playing the game with a hangover after every night out, quoting it endlessly to each other).
Plus, it was the first decent console FPS. There had been others before, but they'd all been frankly pants. It was the first one with decent controls, decent levels, decent weapons, decent bots, decent multiplayer. and the first one that wasn't a PC port.
But it was also amazingly presented... from the BBFC certificate, to the opening sequence, to the mission briefings... it all captured the movie so well. Best movie game ever imho.
4 player splitscreen with golden guns and a hangover was so awesome.
I don't get why they can't agree to share the money. nintendo gets the VC money. ms gets the xbla money. UA/MGM gets a bit of all of it.
That's a shame. Goldeneye was one of the few console FPS I enjoyed. Although I haven't played many. I can't stand using a controller for an FPS.
Anyway, it's probably down to neither party having the James Bond license at the moment.
umm... you can play goldeneye multiplayer over the net..

There's Goldeneye Source, but last I checked nobody was playing it.

No, you can take a rom and load it up into a special emulator.. there's a version of PJ64 which allows net play.
I've done it.
I also used to work on Goldeneye Source, but I decided I had enough when I realised they didn't want to remake goldeneye so much as just make a mod.

That's impressive. I don't think I've found an emulator that good before.
It's a shame about Goldeneye Source. There's a mod for Perfect Dark too. But again, last I checked that one wasn't faring much better.
Personally, I always thought most of the magic of Goldeneye came with playing split-screen with people in the same room.
It wouldn't have been the same if the people you were playing with were just faceless, IMO.

LOL, isn't that the truth. I remember playing four player split screen on a 20" tv back in the day. Playing online multiplayer games on my 37" tv just isn't the same. And on top of that, I can't see where my opponents are!

See, I only play online games with people I know either IRL or through communities.. not just faceless entities.
THAT'S RIGHT!

That's good, but not as good as sitting in the same room as the people playing against so you can interact face to face... and pull out their controller if they're winning by too much.

See, I never had issues with that.. I'd actually be happy because... then it means they wouldn't be able to unplug my controller..

But that's piracy!!!
Also, Goldeneye is amazing. I have a group that gets together around twice a year to play, and it's fantastic.
