Just a heads up, I noticed steam was downloading a 3 gb HL2 update so I checked out discussion on it and turns out the patch converts the entire game's speech + text into Korean.

I paused it because it's going at 10 kb/s (guess because of the amount of people probably downloading) but did anyone install it? People are debating whether or not it's an ARG like Portal had prior to the sequel announcement but I'm guessing something just messed up, it'd be too intrusive for the people who are genuinely playing the game right now.

Edit: some people are only getting a 700mb patch hm.

Assuming this isn't some kind of massive cock up, this is Valve's usual way of telling us that something's in the pipeline and I doubt they'd stir up the HL hornet's nest like this unless it was a continuation of the series in some form or another. But I wouldn't be at all surprised if the truth falls far short of even modest expectations.
HL1 & 2 in whatever graphics engine valve is using today. That would be huge. How were those episodic Half-Life games, I never did play any of them.
This is from Kotaku:

UPDATE - While we're yet to hear back from Valve, the game, like other Source Engine titles, was recently converted to the "Steampipe" file system, so it's likely an error with how that handles your update downloads.

UPDATE 2 - Valve tells us it "should be fixed now".

Yeah figured it'd be something like that. Some of the stuff posted on other forums I frequent was crazy though. Some people really want HL3.

HL3...I thought that was all the episodic crap they tried to shovel down everyone's throat.

They ended episode 2 with a cliffhanger illustrating the biggest flaw with episodic gaming, the possibility of never finishing the story.

Seriously, Valve, quit toying with your gases and make another fucking game already.
hl episodes were an experiment when the whole games industry thought they could serve us little chinks of games and charge nicely for them. Since we don't see that crap anymore I think we can safely assume that they abandoned the format. So I'd expect hl3 to be the full game made in whatever engine Valve intends to use in the future.
I see the two episodes are down to $7.99 each. I have never played them, but played both of the originals and all the expansions. They are getting closer to a price I would pay for them. Maybe once the third one finally comes out, they will release them with the new episode in the new source engine.
I can't tell. My Half-Life 2 seems to have automagically uninstalled itself (the game directory is still there, mind you), and none of my Steam games are working. All it says is "Scanning for Steam games updates".
