Got to love the ticking clock sale. It always gets me to squirm.

I gave myself a hard budget this year for the gog sale. And, I only have $12 left. That's pretty good for one more bundle and maybe a $2.99 game on top. I promised myself that I would walk away from the sale this year with Gothic 2. And, if I get this bundle, I won't be able to get it.

However, 3 out of the 5 games in the M&M bundle is on my wishlist (Might & Magic 9 and Crusader aren't on my list). I never played these games when I was younger and by sheer word of mouth I have them on my wishlist. Is this pack worth adding to my collection?

Edit: I totally meant the Might & Magic bundle. I'm not fully awake yet apparently.

Just to be clear, this is the Might and Magic bundle, not a Heroes Bundle. So while the 6-pack is definately worth it, this is not Heroes of Might and Magic. Plus, it's totally different genres. These are RPGs, the Heroes series is a TBS.
If I had none of the games then I'd probably get the whole bundle for -75%. As it is I only lack MM9 and Crusaders, so I'm skipping it.

Right. I must've zoned out there.

If it was the Heroes franchise, i would've bought it instantly.
Well, I'm playing Might and Magic 6 right now for the "god-knows-how-many" time, and I know I'll play again 3, 4&5, 7 and 8 very soon.

Yes, that's how good they are to me. So, at that price, I'd say give it a try!
It's not HoMM that is on sale, just M&M.
The M&M series is one of those that I find to be a bit of a mixed bag.
Might & Magic 1 is really old. I could not get into it.
Never tried 2
3 was great
4-5 were even better (this is to me the highlight of the series)
6 I did not enjoy. It had its good parts (I enjoyed the character customization and you had a lot of spells to pick from), but the combat was just boring, as it relied in throwing lots and lots and lots of enemies your way. Some encounters with massive numbers of enemies can be fun, but here it just ends up feeling grindy when you have to kill 20 goblins and then 20 more goblins, and then 15 of something else.
7 was like 6, but considerably better. Giving you the option to move when entering turnbased mode made a huge difference. That being said, it still has the flaw of throwing too many monsters your way.
8 takes away my main gripe with 6 & 7. It had a different system for handling your party (instead of making a whole one you just recruited people along the way) which some people liked, and some disliked. Sadly by removing the enemy hordes they also made the game far easier, as they did not re-balance everything else to take this into account. It is a good game, don't get me wrong, but it could have been a lot better. Also, this game is surprisingly short.'
9 I've not played, but it seem to be the black sheep of the series, as it was never actually finished. It was a release forced out the door before they had even had time to finish building the levels.
Crusaders is apparently a sub-par action game. Never played it either.

Is the pack worth adding to your collection? Most likely. 3-5 are worth the price of the pack alone, and there is only a $3.5 difference between buying the 6-pack and the entire set. Though I would recommend trying to scrounge together a few more $ for Gothic 2 when it gets on sale.
Thanks, this all gives me something to think about for the next 23 hours or so before I make my decision.

After the Steam Christmas sale, I learned the hard way what happens when you don't force a limit on yourself ($120 spent on a ton of games.) Plus, having that limit forces you to get only what you want, and not be fooled into getting something simply because it's on sale.

I'm still not sure about M&M tho...
I really enjoyed Might and Magic 1 through 5. The worlds were large, yet varied, dense, and fun to explore. Lots of little bonuses waiting around every corner. You want to see every square on a map. I remember the first game being initially very difficult. I had to attempt multiple parties before I could even escape the first town, as I kept getting clobbered. It was more exciting than frustrating at the time.

I bought MM7 based on gogger's claims that it was the best in the series. The world is now 3D and really lacks the detail of the earlier games. I played for maybe fifteen hours, and found the much of the gameplay to consist of kiting large amounts of similar enemies across bland environments. Exploration can be rewarding, but it's not a pretty process, scouring miles of polygonal brown wall for a trigger. I'm (maybe unfairly) assuming that the other 3D MM games are equally dull.

Now, I'm considering buying the 1-6 set, but I won't touch the others.

M&M 6 & 8 are also similar. These games don't really come into their own until relatively late in the game, when you have access to a wide selection of spells. It makes the combat far more interesting.
Until you try to fight your way through the bad guy's capital (if you play the good guys. The good guy's capital is also quite bad, but not as bad)
