It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

Nirth: Why does it include Foxit Reader? Is it required for something with that game?
Foxit Reader is a PDF reader :D

Nirth: I'm aware of that but why is it included? That could be viewed as bloatware. :/

Not that I mind the application itself, I use it.
It's included in case someone doesn't have a PDF reader. It's fairly optional so you don't have to install/use it if you don't want to :D

TheJoe: Why doesn't the installer also contain a web browser, an office suite, an im client minesweeper, notepad++, a media player, steam, the evolve client and paint.net?

Why stop at PDF readers? Come on GOG don't discriminate.
Because we're installing an entire OS? :D

TheJoe: The user might not have an OS. Come on, think of us binary vagabonds!
If someone doesn't have an OS then I presume they have much more to worry about than a PDF reader :P

Nirth: Any other applications that is going to be might be included in the future? :P

It doesn't really bug me as long as it's optional but it seems sudden.

BTW, why not Sumatra? It's 3 times as fast, I swear...

:-)
The only things we include other than the optional reader is whatever a game requires to run i.e. Java for the first Edna & Harvey game. And again, we include that in case someone doesn't have Java installed or they have an older version than the game needs to run.

Feel free to poke around in our installers using innoextract as many users have done and see if you can find anything :D

TheJoe: Also, I might not have all the games in the catalogue. Could you include all of them in the Beneath a Steel Sky installer?
Interesting idea but no :P

I don't know as I wasn't around as an employee in 2008, just a regular forum goer :D

Elenarie: Any reasons why Foxit Reader is included?

You guys are aware that Adobe Reader / Acrobat is the only PDF application that uses proper sandboxing, right?
That question is beyond my area of expertise because I am not one of the guys that work on the installer and all, sorry :D

Elenarie: Reading their product page now, it states that it supports external commands and JavaScript.

Elenarie: A suggestion, since Vista, 7, and 8 include a XPS and OXPS reader and printer, you guys could also provide O/XPS versions of the PDF files (thus users won't have to install PDF readers if they don't want to).
Send an email via the Contact form about that and it should get passed on to the appropriate party(ies). I only say that because I don't want to step on the techs' toes :D

Elenarie: This isn't exactly tech stuff, more like content / product / whatever (no idea how you guys are organized). :)
Like I said, I have nothing to do with what is featured in the installer, the tech guys and gals do :D.

mrmarioanonym: You can now delete the whole installation folder from the downloader.

Supposedly there was a big overhaul though (?)
It's part of our Windows 8 compatibility updates. :)
The check is still there, but only for installers that have parts (bin files), after you start the installation, and it can be disabled in options. For single exe installers you just need to see if the file is signed - in file properties or when Windows warns about starting a downloaded program. If the certificate is OK, then the installer isn't damaged.

If you don't have all the files in one directory the installer will give a warning on integrity check (which can be skipped to continue with the installation) and will ask for their location when needed. Also the size of parts was changed, so they should be easier to pack on DVDs (3 per disc).
