It's hard to say what will and will not happen with regard to the financial problems that JoWood is experiencing. Last I read (some while ago) they were in trouble, but expected release of the new Spellforce 2 expansion was still on the cards.
I suspect, like many companies in the gaming world, JoWood will be bought out by another group and either be fully absorbed or continue to trade under their original name, whilst remaining part of the larger company. It all depends what will happen.
The other option is that JoWood will sell off its assets to pull itself out of its financial problems. This is a more complicated area since licences and brands can quickly get broken up - for the company it might be the right move and at least allows them to remain a single unit - for gamers it can become a nightmare since brand names can end up split up and held between multiple companies (something GoG also have problems dealing with in getting some titles into their service)
