Elenarie: You played with a Paladin, and you're still alive? Strange that you didn't get bored to death.

My playthrough consisted of just using Holy Fire and Holy Freeze and running around like a fly without a head.
Again I am sorry, but I am a sword loving, armor clad, shielded armed Warrior or similar class loving man through and through :\

Well, if that's the case... At least play a barbarian with Concentration as the main attack. Still much easier than with a paladin.

It is not a surprise. Paladin is a fighter(if you will use caster see below) and you build your character around Holy Fire and Holy Freeze and running? What is your primary attack skill? These are only auras. And not the greatest ones. That is just the worst way of playing Paladin.

You can build a classic Sacrifice + Zeal + Fanaticism paladin. Very powerful, quickly leveling up. Just cut through the hordes of monsters. Zeal allows you attack multiple targets(max 5), increases your damage and attack rating(chance to hit). Sacrifice is good for one powerful target and it also gives damage to Zeal.

But Zeal in Left Click Attack and Fanaticism Aura to right side. Fanaticism is one of the best skills in the game. It increases your and your companions damage, your attack rating and attack speed.

Don't forget to give points to Holy Shield. It is a wonderful skill raising your defence and block rate. Put 20 points in that.

Put the points in Dex until achieving %75 block rate with your best shield. Look for it when your Holy Shield skill is active because it raises your block rate you will need to put much less dexterity points.

Give Strength enough for your gear.

Rest of the stats goes to Vitality. There is no need for Enengy stat.

And also Hire an Act 2 mercenary. You can select a one with Might auro for more damage for you and him. Or you can select a Holy Freeze one for slowing monsters. Give him good items and together you will conquer the world of Sanctuary.

You can make a Vengeance paladin for a change and putting out elemental damage(both fire, ice and lighting). Use with Conviction aura that lowers monstres resistance to elemental attacks.

Also you can make a Hammerdin for a massive damage caster. This build also don't need a lot of items. But killing with flying hammers is not my style i think.

Darvin: In its fully-patched state, solo Diablo 2 hell difficulty is close to unbeatable legitimately. Synergies and the preponderance of immunities means that every character will eventually encounter monsters they simply are incapable of fighting at the higher difficulties. Ironically, the hammerdin is the only exception as (for whatever reason) blessed hammer has a damage bug that was never fixed and nothing is immune to it.
There are plenty of ways of doing it fairly 'easily' - Hammerdin, Windy, Summoner, almost any sorc build, etc.
That reminds me I've never played a single Diablo game :)

Vestin: You don't need luck. It's an extremely fun game, a lot better designed than the predecessor. You should have tons of fun ^^.

oldschool: I respectfully disagree. D3 is just okay, it's fun as the first time through, but on the second playthrough it just becomes boring imo.
Actually - you don't seem to disagree at all. I've played enough adventure games in my life to know this: if it's fun the first time, there doesn't necessarily NEED to be a second one.
I've beaten three difficulties with a single character and then threw the game away (as unconventional MOBAs sucked me in) with the intention of eventually playing the other four classes. I've had fun and I may have a little more of it in the future.
On the other hand, all of the enthusiasm in this thread (as well as others) is starting to rub off on me, so it's increasingly likely that I might try to beat Diablo 2 once again, this time as an adult ;P.
We are arguing about how fun a game is to play. XD

Zero world problems, eh?

No there are, but nothing this important.
You should definitely have good partners i.e (sisterhood, mercs, ironwolves) I too have reached the level cap and completed the game thrice. unfortunately it left a void in me knowing that I have completed something that was a small part of my life, and the fact that D3 sux didn't help at all. Kudos to you however my friend it is a level of awesomeness that few have or will ever reach. Keep gaming strong.

Ah, diablo II. I beat it on singleplayer myself, boring as hell. But the cutscenes were cool, and the game was easy, so I forced myself to go through with it till completion, and never looked back.
I never finished D2's SP; nevermind even LOD.
:-X

I did finish D1's SP portion and D3' all by myself, though...

I had this problem when trying to play Hell difficulty. I finished the game and LOD as a Necromancer and attempted to continue on Hell. But I lost interest, it would take so long to kill anything due to the immunities.

Just as other Diablo games...
Please define what "beating Diablo II" means to you. Because after 13 years, I'm still waiting to have enough stamina and guts to try again and pass the fucking battle with the Arreat champions at the very end of the game.

The first two difficulty levels of Diablo II are a piece of cake, I'm telling you: a piece of cake. Conversely, the third and last one....

P.S.My not-so-humble opinion is that Diablo 1 is a pretty good game and a very atmospheric classic, while Diablo II is unquestionably a true masterpiece of an hackfest, one of the few titles worth of being considered a piece of art belonging to the interactive entertainment genre.
