So I never played Full Throttle. I was big into Sierra and Lucasarts adventure games but somehow Full Throttle blew past me and then I never got around to it. So for my Europe trip I downloaded Full Throttle (abandonware suckas piss off) and was eager to finally play it.

Now I am, and I fucking hate it.

It's so repetituous, touch the ladder and the ship comes to kill you, run away. That didn't work, touch it again and go up, that didn't work. Touch it again and try an item, that didn't work. Though it again and run the other way, that didn't work. Go back and talk to people, they say the same stuff. Go back and look for more items, can't find anything. Finally figure out you touch the ladder and walk to the one little spot on the map he will hide in and the ship lands.

I mean WTF. This is not fun, it's annoying. I used to love this genre and now I can't even play a classic.

Fuck this shit. Time for some Baldur's Gate.

IIRC correctly, Full Throttle wasn't the best PnC to start with. It was a fun game with an AWESOME soundtrack. But as a PnC it failed (at least to gaming mags back then).

Yeah, I remember that puzzle. Got stuck there for the longest time, too. The rest of the game is a lot better, though. Except for the fighting minigame, that was pretty bad.

But I absolutely understand where you're coming from. I love the genre, but some of its conventions are awful.

Next thread title: I can't play roleplaying games anymore

(hope not - that would suck)

Time has come for you to play interactive fictions.
Yeah, I don't remember that game having brilliant puzzles. I found it quite short too. =(

The place where it really shone was its characters (courtesy of Tim Schafer obviously).
aww you missed out the road rash part aka fighting on bike , lol it was fun but ya if you are looking to enjoy point n click
Always play adventure games which dont have the following
1) deaths aka fear of dying
2) mindfck puzzles
3) pixel hunting [optional]
4) using weapons to kill or QTE[quick time event] :X

Is this an ironic stab at the "Farewell to Gaming" thread? ;)

IIRC you can play through it in less than 90 minutes if you know what you're doing ...

Just use a walkthrough man... That's what I do when I get stuck in an old game that everyone and their grandma have been raving about for years but I never got around to playing until now (oh hi there, Ocarina of Time!) -- I'm too old to waste energy on getting frustrated trying to solve that shit.

That said, Baldur's Gate is awesome -- rock on!

I did wonder :-)

But yeah, purely as a game, FT is not the best example of the LucasArts classics.

StingingVelvet: snip
FT is probably the WORST pnc I ever played half the puzzles make no sense and the fights get boring quick >.> sorry to anyone who loves this game but the only reason to play it is the soundtrack... the story isn't bad either but the rest is awful.
You seem to be angry at a particular game, rather than the whole genre. I, too, was somewhat disappointed with FT when I played it (after hearing what everyone else had said). Good story, good soundtrack, lots of charm, but lacking in other areas (but still fun to spend an evening or two with).

What other PnC's have you played? How about Sam and Max: Hit the Road, Grim Fandango, Broken Sword (the first one, and the original version, not the enhanced; probably my favourite adventure game of all time), the Monkey Islands, Space Quests, Tex Murphy, Gabriel Knight etc.?

Don't give up!

oh ok
Aw, you're just frustrated with shitty design, that's healthy and proper.

Or, there's a possibility you're just old and cranky, it happens to the best of us from time to time.
As others already said, it seems that you dislike a specific game feature (badly designed puzzles which favor mindless pixel hunting and repetitive gameplay) rather than a specific genre. Granted, that feature was present in _a lot_ of point&click adventures - but that doesn't mean that the whole genre is lost.

Btw, if you're prepared for another try, you could check out The White Chamber. It got me hooked although the genre isn't one of my favorites. And it's free, so no risk. ;)
