Navagon: I have to agree. It's really a shame that at the time it was so unfinished. It could have set a new benchmark. But instead that was left to Half Life.
Did they ever fix the aiming? That was always the worst thing about the game. If it wasn't for that I'd have been more inclined to persevere with it. But it got the better of me in the end.
Frankly, with the draw distance/resolution patches it was hard to believe it was an 11 year old game. (!)
I didn't have much problem with the aiming... except that running up hill tended to mean your gun hit the ground and got bashed out of place. I just centered the weapon so i could aim over iron sights (another thing ahead of it's time?) and then didn't touch it if possible.
Maybe not good for long range sniping, but good for short range against raptors. (unless they got so close you couldn't hit them).
Having the in-game body, no HUD, etc... were also things that only really hit the mainstream about 3-4 years ago.
It must have run like molasses when it was released though!
