Yes. I'm giving away a 5.99 bucks GOG game of your choice. All you have to do is recommended me a romantic love story. Medium doesn't really matter. Could be a novel, poem, movie... I'm not a dude who is big into paintings, but even that might do, if it appeals to me enough. Doesn't have to be what is commonly referred to as high art, either. I mean, Romeo and Juliet does it for me, but so does the Scrooge McDuck and Goldie O'Gilt story described in Don Rosa's The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck. Yes, I'm serious. I think it's great.

On Thursday I'll decide upon the winner... it'll be the one who provides the suggestion that stirs my interest the most. So please provide a bit of context, don't just post the name of a book or something, that doesn't help me much. Describe what's so fucking romantic about it. Also, you are are only allowed one suggestion, and don't be a boring smart ass and post the name of a porn movie, or some such crap.

So, take it away, I'm eagerly awaiting your suggestions.
I'll recommend Kenneth Branagh's version of Much Ado About Nothing. That movie opened my eyes to how funny Shakespeare can be, and the love stories in it are very good too, if rather predictable.
Opening 8 minutes or so of Up:

It's a better love story than Twilight told with 4 books or 5 movies. If that counts for anything.
Beyond that, I really suck at explaining things, so just watch it :p
Not in, good luck! (don't want to suggest anything yet as not to take one away an option from someone who wants to enter)

One of my favorites too! Brilliant play, gorgeous adaptation.

Have you seen The Princess Bride? What did you think of it?
Watch the movie "Upside Down". It has plot holes and is not very scientific(it's a pure fantasy), but has a cute couple torn apart by worlds, beautiful scenery and awesome special effects - the movie is quite unique. My girlfriend really liked it.
"Bride of Chucky"
The famed killer doll finds the love of his life in a romantic tale for the ages. I realize you asked for context but I feel there is no way I can adequately put into words the passion, the intrique, or the decapitation brought to life in what many feel is the love story against which all others should be forever compared.

Watch it. Know it. Love it.

recommended romantic love story:

Léon: The Professional

Starring Jean Reno (also in Onimusha 3) and Natalie Portman.
By the guy who did The Fifth Element, Le Femme Nikita, and The Transporter.

If you havent seen this film it is definitely a love story, but it stars a hitman theres an insane killer he pisses off who is on his trail after he opens his door. It has action, explosions, social engineering, espionage, sniping, revenge, and a love story rolled into one great film.
perfect for Valentine's Day.

Id watch the Uncut International edition for the bonus 24 minutes of footage because it expands on the romance factor of the flim.
i love this film.

I'm in, thanks for the giveaway and +1. :)

My favorite love story is in the two films Before Sunrise and Before Sunset. There is a third film coming out this year (Before Midnight) which received rave reviews at its Sundance premiere last month. I know you only wanted one suggestion, but the two existing movies really tell one story. All three are directed by Richard LInklater and starring Ethan Hawke and Juile Delpy.

I love these films because the dialogue is so well written and believable. It's not a sappy love story. It's a very grounded, realistic, honest view at how people find and connect with each other. Without going into details, the first film is about two young people hungry for life, love, and new experiences. The second film picks up 9 years later, reevaluating the relationship between the two characters (Jesse and Celine) and their own changed perspectives on love and relationships. The upcoming third film is an additional 9 years later, with each character now in middle age.

So LOL recommending three films (or two, really, since the third isn't out until later this year) might be excessive, but they are only 90 and 80 minutes each, respectively. From a personal standpoint you will find yourself totally invested in Jesse and Celine, caring about them and empathizing with them every step of the way as they transition from youthful passion and hunger to middle aged experience, wisdom, cynicism, and things of that sort. Quite frankly the "Before..." saga is both a modern and timeless masterpiece study of romance and relationships.

I dunno...Angel Beats I guess? That's like a love story.

Its about a bunch of teenagers trapped in Limbo because they lived unhappy lives, and...well, I can't give it away because spoilers, but love does play a large factor in the series. I will say though though that the only way to leave limbo is to find true happiness and to realize that their lives weren't that shitty after all.

Here's a demotivational poster on it.
May be a spoiler:

Oh, I have a better idea! Bram Stoker's Dracula. Its based off of the novel, but Dracula is more of a sympathic character, who only turned evil because of the death of his wife.

Shaun of the Dead might technically speaking be classified as a romantic comedy, and I thought it was a really good movie.
Love Actually is a great movie, funny and warming

It is loads of different stories which all tie together, its great for Christmas as well as Valentines Day.

Me an my wife watch it quite often, its just a nice movie to relax and enjoy.

Thanks, and +1!

I would suggest a comic, Habibi from Craig Thompson.
Apart the wonderful drawings, what makes Habibi a masterpiece is the "magic" and "timeless" setting, in a strange islamic country between the old Ali Baba fables and the gigantic open-air dumps of a borning "modern" state (which may actually be realistic, I don't know), the intimate relation between the drawings and the writings (it's impressive how deep the author went in the arab calligraphy, it's origins and the arab legends).
Plus, it's a love story, a very good one.
I suggest you to read this anyway ;)
Final Fantasy VIII is not like others FF. Yes, it's a real love story, which started with epic story to end with a personal story. Exactly the opposite of others FF. If you like RPG's and love stories, play it !

I can't believe no one mentioned yet The Bridges of Madison County (directed and performed by a person who, like fine wine, has improved over the years: Clint Eastwood. And with Meryl Streep in the other lead role). :)

Without giving away the plot, the film is about two siblings who are dealing with arranging the estate of his recently deceased mother. Among her personal effects, they found the letters of a man, addressed to his mother over many years, which show that the two had a brief affair in 1965 that mark both of their lives forever...

A masterful example of the good work as a director and actor of Clint Eastwood, in an adaptation which in my opinion is one of the few occasions when a movie is better than the book on which it's based, with an adult, realistic story, fraught with love and sadness (nothing to do with the usual romantic comedies).

If you want to experience a really romantic story, I can't recommend any better than this. :)
