So I was recently given a Kindle Fire HD, my first Android device. I have figured out how to sideload apps not on Amazon, and installed the Humble app to try out the Android games I have accumulated there over the times. Everything worked fine, until I tried Waking Mars - for some reason it rotates the screen upside-down, and I can not get it to be the correct way.

I have been googeling a bit now, and I have found the 'lock screen' button. It works nicely on games such as Incredipede (the screen is locked and I can turn it up-side down if I want to), but for Waking Mars the screen just don't lock. I have found some forums, but it is developers discussing it, but the suggestions I can find are all about coding the games to not do this.

It seems it is something Amazon have done on purpose, for whatever reason, so I do not have high hopes, but I figured I might as well ask if someone here have had the same problem and found a solution.

I will chime in... err, I guess open the floor... with the fact that this seems to be all dependent on the developer. I have apps that auto-rotate and apps that force the orientation, all independent of my AndroidOS rotation lock. This does not seem to be the fault of the hardware or OS software... well, maybe that they have that hole that allows developers to disable the home/back keys and the screen-lock...

If your Kindle OS screen is irrevocably locked, have you tried allowing screen rotation back to flip your screen the correct way and then re-locking the screen?

The problem is that for the game that rotates to upside-down, the screen lock do not work. When I lock the screen, the game still rotates.

The first person you should go to could be the developer. There are commands when coding that allow apps to override the Android OS controls and scan for the gsensor anyway.
-Pixel Dungeon will force the screen a certain manner and lock regardless of your controls. (This game specifically locks your screen at 90')
-My Boy! will ALWAYS have auto-rotation enabled. (This app will always be pining your Fire's accelerometer)
-Spider Solitaire will always have forced-rotate AND auto-rotate on, but "smartly". (Your screen only flips 0' and 180' regardless of your lock)

One way around the situation is to use yet-another-app to smartly fix your Fire's internal gyroscope a certain way. Apparently this is a thing as several apps in the Google Play store claim to help (I have not tried these, but they are pretty well reviewed and these developer are one-app ponies):

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=nl.fameit.rotate
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=bong.android.androidlock
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.spydiko.rotationmanager
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ui.robot.rotate
Cheers - this one actually works quite nicely.

Google and Amazon do not play nicely together these days, but I found this app on the Amazon store also. It is a nice app, but I will see if I can find a freeware version that do the same. The problem with Google Play (and Amazon...) is that they do not give a standalone download, but need to link your device to it.... But quite a lot of devs provide it from their own sites, and there is also Androiddrawer.

Marking this as solved, as I know that I just need to find the right app.
