kavazovangel: Guys, please don't turn into a PETA equivalent for DRM.

SimonG: I meant the IKEA promo, or is it Knüt? Google says Knut.

SimonG: I take my Ikea very serious!
I think there is time for an open letter for IKEA.

It is time that we do something. Bragging in forums against IKEA doesn't do anything. Please share your ideas and state that you if you are in.

- We will build a web site.

- We will declare a manifesto. An open letter to companies.

- We will loud our voice via Facebook, Twitter and furniture forums.

- We will inform interior decorators about IKEA and wonderful wooden furniture.

kavazovangel: I have a suggestion... stop reading forums about DRM-related topics, stop caring about DRM, figuring whether this DRM is more or less bad, and just enjoy the games you've bought.
avatar
HoneyBakedHam: I agree with this.

I'd rather play a game for a few hours than to bitch about games for a few hours.
You won't have a game to play if you go on like this.

I don't know how popular Ikea is in Britain, but it is insanely popular here. That has lead to a funny joke.

"Why did we fight socialism for 70 years when we all end up buying from Ikea anyway?"

You won't find a single student appartment in all of Germany that hasn't at least one Ikea item in it.
Deja vu.

I have only lived in the UK for 5 years, but half the furniture we have is from IKEA. Good joke, by the way, must remember it for later.

Let me tell you a little story.

Right now I am sitting in the living room, next to my better half. We are watching "The Mentalist" on TV, and I am also playing Skyrim on my laptop. I started it up with NMM, running it thorough Skyrim Extended Script something. Steam is running in the background, offline mode, I do not notice it and it hardly take any resources. I really enjoy the slow play of a stealth archer sneaking through a dungeon while watching TV. I feel happy and content (the glass of red vine helps also.)

I have absolutely no problems, everything is running smoothly. I have not had any problems since I got Halflife 2 eight years ago. And I belong to the majority of players of today.

However, after this thread I now understand it was all an illusion, I did not enjoy myself at all and Valve was controlling me through their draconian DRM mind-probe.

Edit: By the way, if this scheme of yours falls through, can you promise me it will really be the LAST stand?

SimonG: Heck, I trust some of the scene release groups more than some big publishers ...
At least the scene groups aren't saying to people "we want to fuck you up the ass with a cactus if you dare to give us money".
Do you guys think Hitler would have used DRM on "Mein Kampf" if DRM had been available in his time?

Pheace: Some people are in the belief that as soon as something is on their side of the internets they can/should be able to do anything they want with it, and that is something that simply conflicts heavily with a sustainable gaming economy, since quite simply ... they need money to do what they do. And the more leeway you give people, the more people will be willing to take it.
You probably never noticed but you know, but when you buy games you usually "pay" for them, it's not charity.

That the license you buy prevents you from distributing the games you bought to half the planet it's perfectly normal, but the nonsense begin when you are forced to connect online to ask for permission every time you install/update/ sometime even play the game permission they can refuse without having to give any reasons, while of course giving the right holders the possibility to change the license terms and enforce them anytime they see fit.

You known "sustainable economy" doesn't necessarily means having the customer accepting everything because the poor dudes of the industry has to make money.

Let me tell you a story too!

I am now enjoying my Vodka - it is Smirnoff Green Apple by the way very good quality-. My girlfriend massages me on the shoulders while i play with my co... Oh... While i play Disciples and write to this topic.

Hmm. Maybe. Maybe i will give up all eventually and erase my memory. So i can return to those times that i don't know anything about Steam, DRM or anything else. Only downloading the games and playing them. Respecting all the publishers and developers. Those were the times! Full freedom, only the games!

By the way i am writing this message from a netbook stationed on a IKEA table. So Kudos for IKEA too!

And beware! It is not your brain that they control. It is your cock!!!
