Well technically the correct name for water is actually "hydrogen hydroxide," but that's just silly. Everybody calls it water.

orcishgamer: Avocados and tomatoes are technically fruits, but get treated as vegetables in most dishes. Strawberries aren't a berry, in fact I'm not really sure what they are. An "aggregate accessory fruit" according to Wikipedia, but I still don't know what the hell that means, just that it doesn't fall into the standard definition of berry or fruit.
Well from a taxonomic perspective they are fruits. Culinarily, though, they're definitely vegetables. Strawberries aren't true berries because the seeds are on the outside, but likewise they are treated as berries for cooking because they cook like berries and taste like berries.

In SCIENCE, just because something walks like a duck and talks like a duck doesn't necessarily mean anything in the slightest. (Poor Pluto.)

And that about sums up this thread, thanks!:)

amok: Buckwheat is not a grain - it is a nut.

There is not a single man-made construction which is visible from space.
ooh, ooh, a peanut isn't a nut, it's a pea!

sanscript: I can't believe that many actually fell for this sort of thing. I'm in no way any chemist, but anyone that has gone through highschool/college should know how one names certain basic compounds:
Mono = 1
di = 2
tri = 3
etc...

H1 is thus monohydrogen or just hydrogen/hydrid, whether it's the first or last compound.
H2 = dihydrogen
O1 = monoxide (oxygen is gas = oxide)
O2 = dioxide (as in CO2 - Carbondioxide)
O3 = trioxide (ozon)

In other words, dihydrogen-monoxide (H2O) is just plain water.

etna87: I'm not sure why you felt the need to explain that, but whatever. The funniest (or saddest) thing about this hoax is that she "speaks for New Zealand National Party on drug issues" (according to Wikipedia). One could also reinterpret her statement in her maiden speech that water is the "single most important issue facing New Zealand today" accordingly :-D

Actually, now that I think about it, it's probably rather sad. Apparently, nothing has changed after the incident either.
Well, it just came out, besides, I figured later that some might not know this...

But you're right, it is sad actually :). I haven't gone trough the internet to se where it started, how or who... it's not important anyway. However, it never surprises me to se that some people would rather use their energy to preach fear, rather than educate.

Yup, that sums it up :D
9/11 WTC 7 Controlled demolition myth debunked

Truthers would have you believe it was a controlled demolition with a gif, that isn't the whole clip. Before I get into the contents of the whole clip, I have to say WTC 7 collapsed due to uncontrolled fire. Firemen were directed elsewhere that day, other than WTC 7 at least. WTC 7 was supported by steel. But heats weakens steel. Steel also expands when heated, so critical connections between between beams can break. What caused the fire? North tower, only yards away, ejected burning material. It also damaged the water mane of Building 7, so it couldn't extinguished from the inside

Now for the contents of the clip. Penthouse structures are seen collapsing on top. This is consistent with steel failure. That part is what's cut out. The outside structure collapse also creates the illusion the entire building collapse at once, which makes the illusion of controlled demolition.
