McDon: Is that not bad for game design? Usually it must be possible for the tester to beat it.

lowyhong: No it's not. I found it frustratingly difficult to the point where I had to ragequit a few times, but it's never unfair. 90% of the time when my character dies, it's because I panicked or got myself confused with the switching. I always found myself thinking "Screw this game," but never "This game sucks."

I also second VVVVVV. Excellent little game.
This, it's just a hard game. To be fair, they do a good job easing you into it, the difficulty just doesn't stop ramping up when you think it should...:)

kalirion: I'd add my recommendations to Super Meat Boy and VVVVVV, but you said you weren't interested in 100% pure platformers without combat for whatever reason, so I won't :)

Mentalepsy: No special reason, since pure platformers and puzzle platformers are awesome too. Combat platformers just happen to have my attention right now. I'm craving bad guys and boss fights as well as spike traps and fire pits.

I still welcome the recommendations from other subgenres, though. Finding new games is a great thing.
I don't know why but boss fights are my favorite part of a platform game, speaking of Super Meat boy, what about gish by the same developer, it's sort of platform and has bad guys, maybe try out the demo if you're unsure cause it not a typical platform anyway.
