I thought MP3s were supported by the PS3, but when I brought in my Amazon-bought songs, DRM-free MP3s, it wouldn't recognize the files. Is there a step I'm missing? I checked on Google, but it only says how to convert songs into MP3 for use on the PS3.

the method for getting the ps3 to recognize music files is very harrowing and it actually is not very user friendly at all.
are you doing it through networked storage, a device plugged into the ps3 (doesn't work), or did you download the files from the amazon market place onto the device?

You know, the damndest thing is it's working now. I was doing it through a flash drive, and it didn't read the files, but now it is. Thanks, though!

yeah, ps3 has real trouble with that, but don't worry, the xbox does too. when I connect my zune, I have to reconnect it a billion times for it to see my 20k+ songs..
The thing to keep in mind about the PS3 and flash drives, is that if you don't put the media in a specifically named directory the PS3 will sometimes have issues finding them.
VIDEO
MUSIC
All caps, and just those names (for music files and video files obviously) I don't use it much but I believe pictures are PHOTO. If you ever run into issues again give that a shot.
The other thing you can do, is if you have a computer you leave on, or one you don't mind turning on when you want to stream something to the PS3, check out "PS3 Media Server"
http://ps3mediaserver.blogspot.com/
I've been using it for a while to stream from my file server, and it's been working like a dream. :)
