Shinook: I also find it highly unlikely they had the funds to buy the rights to System Shock, more than likely they brokered an arrangement to have it sold while Star/Meadowbrook retained the rights.
Well, yeah, I took another look at the article at Rock Paper Shotgun, it just says "Night Dive secured the rights", whatever that exactly means. I thought the same article stated that Stephen Kick also had to borrow money from another party to pay the insurance dudes but apparently I confused the stories here. Well, Night Dive is listed as the publisher on GOG and Steam so they certainly are profiting from every unit sold and must have done something more than just convincing Star/Meadowbrook to make a deal with GOG and Steam (aside from polishing the game).

Licurg: Can you ask them on facecrap if they're looking into The Suffering ?
I'm sorry, I don't have a Facecrap™ account, but I'll see what I can do. ;)

Well, I saw they hinted at Shadow Man, and if they're going for the Midway catalogue, The Suffering would be a much better choice.

I think Night Dive acts, for all intents and purposes, as publisher and takes care of the middle-man work between the rights-holders and GOG, Steam, and other stores. In that way, it's beneficial to the rights-holders because they can bring the game to a wider audience than GOG alone, and this will end up helping GOG secure games it couldn't previously on their own. I mean, it's been known on the GOG forums for years that Harlan Ellison's company still had the rights to IHNMAIMS and that they were still selling boxed copies, but maybe GOG on their own couldn't make an attractive enough offer but Night Dive could by offering to bring the game to multiple digital retailers.

I thought you said you don't have a facecrap account . And is that you in the picture ? You're almost as ugly as I am :P
Hmm, so was today's release the reason for the "countdown"? Perhaps they intended to release the game on Tuesday but instead it was changed to Thursday.

Yeah, probably Stephen Kick agreed to participate in some satanic ritual with Harlan Ellison while TET was too chicken to do it.

Which is odd since I haven't seen anything about this game appearing in other online stores. It would make sense, but nothing has been said, unlike System Shock 2.

I'm just assuming that GOG will once again be the exclusive distributor of the game for the first few months, like with System Shock 2. Although if it comes to Steam, having achievements and trading cards for it would feel pretty inappropriate. ;)

Well, we'll see. I Have No Mouth is much more of a niche game than System Shock 2, they might consider a Steam release pointless for one reason or another.

Honestly, that's kind of what I am thinking, too. I know it wouldn't be difficult to release on Steam, but Night Dive may not consider it worth the time and money. I'm happy for GOG if this is true (assuming almost no Steam fans would be saddened by this), although that is fanboyism.

can you please post a link to that quote?

Well, let's be honest: most GOG "fanboys" support GOG so much because they see GOG as the only chance to ever play some games that they are actually fanboys of. And I'm pretty certain that exclusives raise the odds. That I consider some of the GOG people awesome fellas is just a bonus.
