To be quite honest, I did have some contact with a PC (a 386) before in a friend's house. I remember his Wolf 3D shareware, Lotus 2 (or 3, I don't really remember), Blackthorne (I had the SNES version and was very much impressed with the blood in the PC version).
I also retain some vague resemblance of a memory of some more obscure gaming software. I remember Thexder being the first PC game I ever saw, on another friend's house, some time before (please note that I only realized it was Thexter recently, back then I didn't know its name). I saw DOOM in a third friend's house (unconditional love at first sight :D ) and Sim City 2000 in a fourth friend's house.
Whew... that's a lot of games in friends's houses. :D
As for educational software, there was some sort of DOS based program we used in school, allowed teachers to build small courses, I think. It was cute, but we used it only by the end of the 90s.
