G'day all, I'm after a free stable online storage solution for files - pics, videos and documents that I can easily link stuff to these forums. I once undertook a 383km walk and took 801 photos that were stored only online, and unfortunately that site (Picjar) vanished along with all my visual recordings of that walk. Suggestions?
google drive pretty good also support for many apps and operating systems - encrypted - it's used for sharing links like that :D
about 15 GB

Dropbox also great and supported on many OS - used for sharing stuff
SSL + AES encryption
(5 GB free account)+ expanding

sugarsync good too - encrypted
(5 GB free account) + 500MB for invited user

iDrive Sync (custom encryption key) - encrypted
(5 GB free + expanding 20GB

Wuala java based can attach as network drive - encrypted
(5 GB free) + expanding

...skydrive has a limit of 25MB per file (it had many years ago now it's 2 gb per file - i just forgot about them), also they check what you keep there and they can close accounts anytime

Try Mega. It's encrypted and you get 50gb storage for free. It doesn't have a desktop client like other services, but that's actually a plus for me anyway. Service is quite new, so stuff is still being added.

Seconded, that's what I use. Applications are also beginning to offer Dropbox integration out of the box. For example. Titanium Backup on the Android will perform backups straight into your Dropbox account, ensuring your files are kept somewhere else in case of an emergency. It's brilliant for sharing as well, as you can create folders for different friends and they can only see the ones you explicitly share with them.

???
See here for a 1.5GB file on skydrive.
If you use the web upload, there is a limit of 200MB as I recall, if you use the application to synch, it has a 2GB per file limit.
Also, link for checking of files and/or closing accounts?

Just google Skydrive and child pornography and you'll get lots of links.

A couple years ago I couldn't access my Skydrive after uploading some of my newborn pics for backup. I contacted MS and they corrected the situation right away.
Microsoft Offered the NSA Direct Access to Outlook.com, Skype, SkyDrive Accounts some other souce

Copy - 15gb free to start, 5gb bonuses - use my spammy refferal link for an extra 5gb. https://copy.com?r=l0q3vb

I havent used it much so far as I usually use dropbox, but am transferring over as dropbox doesnt provide nearly enough space.

Another +1 for Dropbox.
I'm sure the other US online storage sites do as well. Google drive being definitely guilty.

I'd don't trust any of the online backups myself. I don't own one or want one. Unless you encrypt the file, just be aware that it could be viewable by a lot of people. /tinfoil hat rant

you can encrypt them but not AES since everyone tries to break that (encrypt with 2 algorithms serpent + twofish)

also there is owncloud - you can set this on your own server
