Looks like either a scam to draw in more subscribers before the last server goes under, or SOE earned truckloads of money from Free Realms and doesn't know what to do with it. ;) Either way, they say there's a Vista compatibility patch coming for the first PlanetSide, plus some more cool stuff, so I think this just made my day. :D

... Which is a shame, since the mechanics and gameplay are phenomenal and the game deserved to become a great hit. Let's hope SOE learned something over the years and make up for their past mistakes... ;)

I don't know if I could praise its mechanics I actually found most the guns really clunky and hard to use. It was still amazing in its prime though even with what I consider to be fairly broken controls. The huge fights were amazing with literally 100's of people each side. If they tighten the controls in the second one and maybe make the guns feel more like guns and not fisher price toys I could see myself getting addicted to it.

I don't know why, the game just didn't draw me in during the trial period. It wasn't as intense as WWIIOL, which I'd gladly pay for. Something about Planetside felt a little "off" to me. I'm guessing the most probable reason is because I was never a part of those super "intense" fights, and I just kept dying. Also, reading the forums and learning about the route that SOE was taking was very depressing to a new player looking for a good MMOFPS
