Before you walk into a game store in Poland and see the amazing cheap prices for most games then quickly buy 10 to 20 games, know that these games are Polish and Russian language only. Other than that, Poland is a very safe country with friendly people. Not 100% safe but nowhere is 100% safe. Enjoy your time in Poland. :)

monkeydelarge: The trains take forever in Poland(there are no high speed trains)
Actually...

Of course my understanding of "high speed trains" may be wrong. I couldn't complain travelling between Warsaw and Berlin in ~4.5 hours, though.

I think I rode on a train for 15 hours from Warsaw to Gdańsk for no good reason... Ignorance is not fucking bliss.

monkeydelarge: WTF. When did that happen?
I have no idea, all I know is that already in 2007 or 2008 a friend of mine told me about the great connection between Warsaw and Berlin (one that I used a lot in 2011/12 due to an internship in Berlin) and apparently there's a few other similar ones within Poland.

Yeah, between Berlin and Warsaw, you can take high speed trains but once you are at Warsaw, it seemed to me(around 5 or 6 years ago) the only trains you could take are those really slow ones. So I took one of those slow trains from Warsaw to Gdańsk. The journey was around 15 hours. I had no kindle, no smartphone, no PSP, no nothing... After 8 hours, I couldn't take it no more. Felt like I was on the Last Express...

I only plan to buy food, that way language won't get in the way!
Although I am wondering if the GOG headquarters (in Warsaw I think) have a souvenir shop and T-shirts for sale.
I'd sure buy a GOG T-shirt, or two.

GOG, lock your doors and board up your windows. awalterj is coming to town! :P

awalterj: Poznan for example is super picturesque. The town square looks colorful like Legoland and the Imperial Castle is going straight into my sightseeing targets folder. Be assured that if I come to Poznan, I'll "gift code" you a free beer in person.
No sir, prepare for a beer waiting for you :)

You just make sure to look for a Ciechan Mocny in a beer section :-)

awalterj: There's an old warship in Gdynia, anything of that sort is a yes on my list.
I don't think there's much sightseeing in Gdynia really, we have a warship, a 100 year old sailing frigatte, awesome modernist architecture, a few bunkers, though they're not easy to explore, but since the waterline is declining, they're getting closer and closer to the shore every day. Recently, an observation bunker was on the virge of falling, so they helped it with explosives, and down it went into the sea. So, every now and then, there are a few things to see. Beside that it's a relatively young city [1927] so, if You're not into early XX century stuff it might be a bit on the boring side. ;)

If You're prepared to travel a bit, there's always the Wolfsschanze in the far northeast, but since You're located closer to the center of the country, i'd say try Festungsfront Oder-Warthe-Bogen mentioned before. Both locations are a must for bunker and history buffs.

Have a nice stay!:)

Heh, who knew there was a stew primarly made of meat and cabbage? You learn news things everyday! That looks kinda tasty, might look for the recipe in the future.

Fortunately, I have some siege experience (LEGO castles and Stronghold). They'll get hungry and come out, eventually.

I'll have write that down, Polish pronunciation is devilishly difficult to guess.

I've already bookmarked the Wolfsschanze as a point of interest though sadly that's too far out to be feasible this time around.

Looks like Berliner pastry, will have to try this.

The first time I had pierogi was in the US (at Polish friend's place, of course). Haven't had pierogi since 2011, I suffer from withdrawal symptoms :-(
I bet you have already known about Castle in Golub-Dobrzyń Burg Gollub about 20 km from Ostrowite?
