Hey, would anybody happen to have a .psd template for GOG style icons? Ya know, same dimensions and the same gloss effect and whatnot? I know there was one posted here back in 2009, but the link no longer works.

Could you clarify "GOG style icons" or post an example?

The user avatars are 48 pixels x 48 pixels with the image resolution at 72 dpi.
The avatars included with the games are usually 150 pixels x 150 pixels also with the image res at 72 dpi.

The simplest way would be to open an existing "GOG style icon" and save it as a psd. That should give you a template at the correct ppi and image res. Add a transparent layer above your artwork, add a white gloss area and reduce the transparency to suit.

My bad, didn't take it literally . . =)

I believe the GOG icons are the standard 32 pixels x 32 pixels or 48 pixels x 48 pixels. See this page for more info.

They go larger than that if you put the folder into extra large icons mode. 256x256 would be my guess.

Agreed . .

Also I believe the default icon res is 96 dpi, would need to research to confirm.

Dots per inch doesn't matter, I'm quite sure the Windows icon format doesn't even contain any definition for that concept. The icons that GOG bundles with the games contain 256x256, 48x48, 32x32, and 16x16 sizes, at least the former three in 32-bit colour, and the latter two or three in 16, 8, and/or 4-bit colour.

While Windows icons can theoretically be any size, the by far most common are the ones mentioned above. 96x96 is sometimes used but only in special cases (Windows XP "very large" folder icons that show the contents of said folder, for example), for most cases a 256x256 icon is used and scaled down on demand, 24x24 is also relatively common but is mostly used for toolbar buttons (and, I think, for notification icons), in actual folder displays, the 32x32 icon is scaled down instead (even if a 24x24 icon is available).

Ah yes, to clarify I did mean the HD icons that come with every game. There used to be a .psd file available on these forums that was of the correct dimension (256x256, the largest GOG icon size) and had a gloss effect already applied on a separate layer, meaning all you had to do was add the artwork of your choice.

I would love this as well... I posted a few Icons that I TRIED to make look like GOG Box art Icons, but the official one would be great.
Wait, these new, round-style icons are a thing?

Ever since the 2.0 installer appeared.

GOG's official template was never released to us, the only thing we've had was a fan-made one.

Even a decent Fan Made one would be awesome.

When did THAT happen? I thought there was something odd when the installers for Earthworm Jim and Freespace looked different, but I figured those were old versions of the installers. Where can I get the round icons for the games I've already downloaded, or do I need to redownload them?

Yes. Unless you ask people to send you their gfw_high.ico files from games with the new installer, and I don't know how GOG likes them being spread around outside the installer.
Wait, so the icons have changed now? They're not the rectangular glossy boxes anymore?
