So, Square Enix has the FF7 remake for sale half off (5.99 USD). It doesn't look particularly impressive in terms of being an updated version, but it's the gameplay that I'm more interested in. It's a game I've played many times over and I would like to have a version that easily runs on modern systems for convenience sake. I realize that I could (illegaly) use an emulated version, but that's not something I'm interested in doing, so ignore that as a potential option. (I really only collect the emulators and roms that hold some nostalgia for me, and the PSX wasn't a system I ever owned so I don't wish to start collecting that one.)
I do however own the original PC version (4 CD's), which leads to why I made this thread: I came across a website that talks about how the old version can be modded to look much better than the re-release. Does anyone have any experience with doing this? How difficult is it to get to run on modern systems, and how difficult are the mods to setup? The page I saw looked like there were hundreds of mods for that game. At first glance, it didn't look like a simple task to get it up and running.
I'm just wondering if I'd rather just pay 5.99 for the sake of convenience, or if I can actually still make use of my old CD's and use that 5.99 here on GOG instead.
Thanks in advance for any help!
