So, someone offered to get me a Wii for xmas, but I'm living in japan right now.
Wii's are region-locked, which is really freakin annoying, so i'm wondering. Is there an EASY way to soft-mod a Wii and make it region free? If so, will it work on the newest models? Does it have a chance of bricking the thing?
Otherwise, i have to decide between one from the UK, and then I can't pick up local games on a whim, and have to order everything off the web... or a japanese one (cheaper, and i can get it in black), but then I'm stuck playing everything in japanese. I can cope with Wii sports in japanese, but something like RE4 or Metroid would be a struggle.
Shiny points for a good answer. (!!!)
PS/ note, this isn't for piracy... i still plan to buy the games. Also, it's wii or nothing, so other options aren't really on the table.

I don't think you can homebrew a wii for piracy..
I say Japan. I think you can homebrew to use English language or something.

Soft modding a Wii for region-free gaming is really easy, essentially it's just installing a homebrew app that launches the game. I haven't tested it but it should work fine.

Oh and yeah, Gecko Os is a complete homebrew app so ( to my knowledge) it's completely legal to use it.
