I love podcasts, and I find it strange that nobody has found a way to deliver this content better than apple via itunes. I hate having to use itunes, but nothing tracks podcasts as good as itunes.

I have to say, I see this as a major failing of the tech sector. You would think either an open source or startup would have found a way to allow easy searching, subscribing, and tracking of podcast series. Seems odd to me.
