Can someone explain how GOG calculates its game ratings? I just had a look at IGI 2. As of this post, it received four reviews: one 4 star, two 2 stars and one 1 star. Now, according to traditional math, this gives an average of 2.25 (9/4). Yet GOG has an average rating of 3.5 stars. What's with the inflated average?

Take a look at the average rating. It says based on 85 customer votes. It isn't just the reviews that count, as you can give a star rating once you've purchased it - look at your My Account page - but you don't have to give a review to rate it.

It may also count ratings that aren't reviews. You can rate any game you have in your collection.

Hell I don't think you even have to buy the game to rate it.

Or review it. My Earth 2150 review and rating were based on the retail version.
