Grow stronger turn, by turn.

Eador: Genesis, an impressive turn-based strategy with RPG elements, that sends you on a quest to conquer a shattered realm, is now available on GOG.com, for only $4.79! That's 20% off, this week only!

The world is no longer whole. All that remains are the islands of existence drifting aimlessly through the endless ocean of emptiness and oblivion. This broken realm houses many aspiring despots, hell-bent on uniting the floating shards of land under their own rule. There was, however, no single monarch who could achieve that feat since the time of the cataclysm. That won't stop you from trying, of course. Is it because you're even more hungry for power and wealth then your opponents? Or maybe you see a higher purpose in domination over Eador? Maybe you believe, that the world united under the rule of one strong leader will finally begin to heal? As one of the Masters, you're free to exercise your will however you see fit. But know this: history will judge you.

Eador: Genesis delivers a turn-based strategy experience inspired by the classics of the genre. It's a multi-layered game, equally stressing the importance of your kingdom's development and management, and your tactical battlefield abilities. There's also a strongly accented RPG element, that goes so well with the imaginatively crafted fantasy setting of the game. With over 170 structures to build, 80 magic spells to master, and 70 kinds of units to lead into the battle, each with its own goals and defining characteristic--this title will keep you busy for many long evenings.

Looking for a well-polished turn-based strategy game that's immersive, enthralling, and deep? Get Eador: Genesis, for only $4.79! That's 20% off until the promo ends on Tuesday, December 11, at 10:59AM GMT.

Do. It's really, really amazing. I don't have nearly enough time to play it as I'd like, but it's the perfect mixture of RPG and TBS. The game itself is not perfect, but what the hell, nothing is.

lukew: Ok, I really like turn-based strategy games. However, I was going to pass on this game. Now I been reading this thread and I have to say, people are really selling me on this game. Also, it's the second best selling game on GOG at the moment? What the hell? This has come out of nowhere.

It's crazy addictive. Don't let the screenshots fool you, this shit really ups the ante for TBS games here.

Buy it! think about it, I bet you spent more than $4.79 on something you thought was cool but is a complete crap. For all that is holy, please buy it ! after playing it, it really makes you cry when you realise how Warlock master of the arcane and Fallen enchantress sucks compared to this. Wait til you see Masters of the Broken world, I think its basically this game plus graphics and stuff
may I have a question to those already playing?

(WARNING, possible spoilers of the first 4-5 hours of gameplay)

so, I've managed to "conquer" quite easily all the shards accesible to me from the start, except for the capital (castle) of the red opponent - when I attempt to charge it my character tells me he will be trampled :D (btw, I've set my avatar portrait before I started the game but I still have to play with the default one...)

is it really so that now I have to "level up" for a bit to be able to defeat the castle? I went back to my base and started "exploring" and "entering buildings" but even if I defeat many "building" enemies, new appear after a while, so I probably can never "finish" any of the shards, I can only "explore" them fully, correct?

the thing is, the "building" encounters differ from mad easy (and repetitive after 15 with the same enemies) to mad difficult where I have no chance... the mentor won't probably talk to me until I've defeated the castle so I'm not sure if this is the correct way...

thanks!

You're having trouble with the tutorial? Come on, man! It's just one map, one shard.
What's your hero type and army composition?

I don't know! :D

on every "hex" (so shards are the maps?) the fight was quite easy, 3-5 enemies that I was able to deal with without problems... but the castle tells me there are 15+ enemies and that I will get trampled... or is the word "trampled" here used in a different, peaceful way? :)

anyhow, I didn't try to start the fight, but I've tried some other "exploration" or "building" fights where the avatar suggested I have no chance, and I had no chance ;) for example two huge ogres against my army of (slightly leveled) skeletons, peasants, slingers and "javelin throwers" (two of each, can't fit more into my army yet) and I was barely able to kill one :(

I can't be that lame, there's just no way to defeat them with my current "level" and resources, even with the most powerful spells available to me...

damn, I really must be getting old and useless :(

Temporary top selling lists don't really say much. It just got released, of course it'll be up there, there's not much else to top it at the moment till there's some good sales or other releases. Normal sales levels aren't that high :)

Sooo.. you've put skeletons in an army of good creatures? That's one problem - the fighting spirit of the army takes a nosedive.
Second, you're not supposed to clear out all the building encounters in the tutorial. You only have access to level one spells, units and gear. You can safely fight orcs, goblins, most robbers and later slimes. Higher tiered enemies will be a major problem.
Your character also gets XP from exploring the area they're in and finding new buildings.

no no, all the other units in my army are "neutral" so they don't get a penalty, they're ok (only the healers, knights and some stronger knights are lawful, and I don't use those).
so, you suggest I just attack the castle? I think I will, I've leveled quite a bit while waiting to become "superstrong" enough :) the mentor told me "the lord is sleeping" and I should hurry to kill him, but I have no idea if he's awake already or not... I'll just try I guess ;)
Keep exploring all the territories and look out for a magical shop. If one randomly appears you can often buy level two gargoyles from them which gives you a powerful unit you can put into your army for a big more punch in combat. Granted you'll be limited to how many level 2 slots you'll be able to fill but you should be able to get one or two in at the very least.

Also remember the enemy commander in the tutorial isn't awake so he's a dead player. As such nothing stops you fighting - killing off some guards and being killed and them coming back to fight again - because the ai won't restore the lost troops.
Your hero will be revived if he dies (in regular games past the tutorial he has to be taken back to the stronghold and also will cost to revive - its free in the tutorial mission).

Yes, the AI is inert in the tutorial, you have all the time in the world to have your character explore areas, find low-level mobs and kill them.

ok, so I can tire the lord to death by my continuous weak attacks, good to know :o) I should have no problem then...

also, do I keep the XP for the remainder of the game? (not being able to play as my chosen avatar in the tutorial would suggest that I can't, but...?)
the reason is - the battles with low-level mobs are quite boring and repetitive so I think I had enough of those for now :)

Oh, no, you start every single mission from scratch... However with each conquered world you unlock bonuses to make the start faster. Also, the AI will be alive in all following missions, so you won't have time to get bored.

If anything you'll fast come to curse the AI for not giving you long enough to get bored with hunting around the mobs. Also remember as the game advances you'll unlock more buildings and options so that you won't be stuck only fighting low-level mobs all the time.

Don't forget you can use Quick Combat (F10) to auto-resolve battles.
