Lurking in the forest, coming to get you.

Miasmata, a one-of-the-kind survival horror game that strands you on a mysterious island with a ferocious feline beast, is now available on GOG.com for only $13.49! That's 10% off, this week only!

Cats. You can't trust them. Even a cat person knows that they're always hiding something. It's not only that they will act offended if you find them peacefully sitting in the middle of a ruin that used to be your apartment and you blame them for this apparent natural disaster. This is nothing. At nights, when you're asleep the cat will sit at the footboard of your bed, staring at you, eyes glowing in the dark. Plotting. Screening the many scenarios of your death in his fuzzy feline head. If you happen to wake up at this moment, you will feel more than a little bit uneasy. All that can happen in the cozy safety of your own apartment. Now imagine a little change of setting--you're not at home, you're stranded on a mysterious island. Also, the cat isn't your average felis domesticus. It's still a cat, but it's the size of a pickup-truck. And it's got horns. And it's not even trying to hide the fact, that it wants you dead. Getting the chills now, are you? Well--welcome to Miasmata.

In Miasmata, an encounter with the giant cat-like monster is a probable cause of death for your character, but by no means the most common one. The game is very unforgiving when it comes to wilderness survival. Just like in the cult hard-core classic, Robinson's Requiem, you'll have to pay close attention to your nutrition, hydration, wounds, and potential illnesses, in order to just stay alive. As if this wasn't tough enough, another important task for you to complete on the island is to research its unique plants and fungi in order to synthesize a cure for the plague. Yes, didn't I mention you're suffering from a plague? Well, you do. By the end of the day you might just feel thankful, when the cat-creature creeps up to you in the darkness and puts you out of your misery. If you're a quitter, that is. Otherwise--prepare for a masterfully created survival horror challenge!

Do you think you know a thing or two about wilderness survival, self-medication, chemistry, and cats? Miasmata will prove you wrong, for only $13.49. You can grab it 10% off until Wednesday, December 5, at 14:59 GMT.
Now this reply made my day :)

Thanks for the info.

Dragonfly2012: This game looks interesting...is it playable for cat people like me? No spoilers pls if possible.

Azilut: Well according to the Eurogamer article, the Cat is unkillable, so if you were worried about having to kill cats, sounds like you won't be able to. Even though you might wish you could.

Unless you meant that you yourself are a cat-human hybrid. In which case I'd say it comes down to whether you have opposable thumbs.

It may be worthwhile for prospective purchasers, to check the Steam (*spit) forum for this game, with regards to performance.

wormholewizards: This could be better than Far Cry 3 if they have similar budget:

Bump in case anyone missed this walkthrough link. :)

My only question is, how large is the island? It appears to be massive, which is a really good thing.

Cat-human hyprid? Hmm sounds like Elder Scrolls is more your style :P

Thanks for the hint... there seem to be quite a lot of framerate issues. I only have a 256 MB graphics card, but some other games that officially require 512 MB work well on low settings, too. Hmm, the game looks very tempting, but maybe I simply wait for a noticable discount - just for the case it won't run properly on my laptop.
Addictive story and nice graphics. I'll give a shot.

LOL, I passed at slightly over minimum with a 1 gig gfx card and 6 gigs of ram :)
Grabbed it, i'm about to give it a spin.

Thanks, but I already know this tool. It tells me, I cannot run the game because of my graphic card. But it tells me the same for Grimrock and Grimrock runs really good at low settings (which look still great in my opinion). So my doubts remain.

My videocard and RAM pass recommended, but my CPU is barely over minimum (they recommend an i5 and I have an i3). And it's not like the game is cutting edge, visually-speaking. I'm not sure I understand why it needs so much power. It's not the slickest engine ever, that's for sure. But for something built from the ground up by two guys, it's incredible.

Absolutely loving the game so far. Not just liking it. Loving it.

Yeah... I dunno. You have what... 256mb? What resolution do you run at?

jefequeso: I meet the Recommended specs for everything except RAM, which is kind of a pain. Should be okay if I turn down graphics though. In any case, should be able to get it this weeked and really looking forward to it! :D

Apparently the developers are going to be rolling out a patch to help with some of the performance issues, so that'll be nice.

Yeah mine is i3 as well, I looked at a couple of videos and I dont think its a game I would like, seemed too slow moving and it seems to have an awkward inventory system for carrying stuff in your hands etc.
^Wow, I totally mutilated that quote up there. Hopefully you people can puzzle it out. :D
