Say cheese!

Snapshot, a 2D platformer with adorable pixel-art graphics and a unique twist in the mechanics, is now available on GOG.com for $4.99! That's 50% off until next Thursday, November 29, at 10:59AM GMT.

Meet PIC. PIC is a robot. But don't hold that against him. In this little metallic chest of his beats a heart of a true artist. Well, a cold fusion power-coil of an artist, to be precise. PIC's goal in life is to travel the beautiful, colorful world he lives (um, operates?) in, and take pictures of everything he sees. This would indicate his Japanese origin, right? But the camera he uses is no ordinary piece of Asian tourist equipment. It's got some very special powers that let PIC mess with the reality and give a whole new meaning to the term "capturing a moment".

Snapshot takes us for an unique trip across the pixel-art landscapes. It's only natural to take some photos, now isn't it. But the clever mechanics that let you manipulate the objects you point your magical camera at, makes your trip so much more amazing. If you're a fan of classic 2D platformers, if you enjoy top-notch high-res pixel-art, but you just can't force yourself through yet another cliche game--take Snapshot for a spin. It's something completely different!

Grab your time-space bending camera and take a Snapshot, for only $4.99!

Roman5: Looks like a cool platformer but...I must admit that I expected at least some sort of Action, Racing or FPS title today

This week seems to be all about Point/Click and Strategy :)

GameDesigner: generally it looks like gog lost its touch on releasing old games, they are quite rare (we used to be getting 2-3 a week) and when they do appear its mostly strategy/tactical games..
I think even other digital disturbers have more old games release per month than gog now or at least similar amount.
What TET said, but why let the facts get in the way of a good whinge, right?
I’m sick of your complaining about „not enough releases” and „not enough releases of good old games”.

TheEnigmaticT: In the last week we've released Shadow Warrior (PC & Mac), Imperialism, and Terminal Velocity. That's three or--if you want to be a numbers-inflating bastard and count Mac seperately (since, after all, it does take a lot of work)--four. Either way, though, that's FPS, action, and strategy classics released in the last 7 days--and each of them among the very best of their genres.

We remain comitted to classic games. We are currently working on getting a number of them ready for the next few months. We will continue to release classics. While we are, indeed, releasing a number of new games, you will find that we continue to work on classics just as much as before. :)
There would be always a certain percentage of people complaining no matter what you do, no matter how many games you would release - that's just how things are. But do not forget that there is a huge group of people like me too - who just love gog anyway and are happy if another week goes by and they did not buy a game - I still have a plenty of games to finish (Inqusitor, Witcher 2, Icewind Dale, Planescape Torment, Fallout Tactics, HoMM 5, Wallace&Gromit and I still have at least 5 games that I will buy during Xmas ...) and your catalog is so much bigger than last year and next year it will be even bigger and then 2014 will come and Project Eternity and Wasteland 2 will be there too... So life is good and it will be even better in the near future...
Ohhhhh - I approve. There can never be enough platformers.

It has some technical problems still, yes, and it is still being worked on (as I understand it), but it is worth it just for the sheer originality of the camera.

thank you for responding,
I personally do like that indie games got a place to market themselves for obvious reasons.
I was mainly expressing my general feeling when comparing the average in this year and last year, I know there are some great oldies released but somehow they seem to be diluted by Indies, and not so old games from 2002 onward.

the oldies that do get released seem to be focused on strategy genre this last months its not a bad thing but there are so much other genre defining games that are missing.
my opinion on the matter is more of a feedback to the changes than a pure complaint.

on a more positive note you (GOG) seems to have much better communication with the community than other digital distributors which is also very important and does differentiate you. sometimes customer service is more important than the product itself.
I hate the mechanics this game uses, but the graphics are so very cool... if it had a great controls as well I might get it just for those :D

What my fellow Aussie said is basically how I feel and I'm sure I'm not the only one.
I can't believe I'm saying this but this looks fucking adorable

oh god I'm getting diabetes
Awesome, I was just thinking about buying it the other day, but a GOG version would be preferable!

+1
Looks like a nice platformer with an interesting concept. Good chance that I will pick it up during the next week.
Looks quite nice and definitely like a fun game mechanic. For five bucks, I'll bite.

Bloodygoodgames: Don't like platformers, and we seem to be getting more and more of them on GOG, so it's a miss for me as well.
I wouldn't call less than a dozen games an abundance though. Yes, we did get a good few more in recent months, but for the longest time we also only had the Earthworm Jim and Rayman titles. So there's that. *shrug*
Something tells me that $5 is probably what it should've been by default. It's an attractive looking platformer to be sure, but the controls don't appear to be that great judging from what I've seen/read about it. I also do not think the game mechanic looks that enjoyable, although I admit it's not something you see everyday, so I gotta give credit for that.

The 100 Levels part has me worried that it will overstay its welcome before the end of the game. I'm also concerned that a lot of levels will feel very similar to one another. I've never been particularly interested in Time Trials, either. If people want to speed run, they can do it without the clock ticking in-game.

To be honest.. I'm wondering if this will be a case of quantity over quality, insofar as content goes. I mean, it's not just a platformer, but apparently a puzzle platformer. I guess this is the pessimist in me whose been burned on bad platformers and puzzlers in the past speaking.

EDIT: Oh yeah, did anyone else think of Pokemon Snap when they saw the title name? I dunno why I thought of it, really, but yeah. :p
