A week or so ago someone asked me in a thread to get back to them with my take on the Genesis Gold CD Rom as soon as I got it. Unfortunatly I can't remember who it was and I can't find the thread so I'm starting a new one. It will be here in a couple of hours and as soon as I give it a spin I can come back here provided whoever it was still wants to know.
Thanks

Thank you for remembering me. It was more a question of curiousity than serious consideration getting it, but I'm still interested to know :-)

She runs pretty sweet. There is an annoying disc check when you first start that can take about 3 minutes but that really doesn't bother me. It has a lot of nice display functions to tweek to make it look as good as possible given that it is a transition from a t.v. to a PC monitor. Also it has all the manuals on the disc which is nice in case you have forgotten how to play Sonic. :P

It isn't what I would call the best that Genesis had to offer but there are some great titles on there like VR2, Vector Man, Gunstar Heroes, Streets of Rage, and Altered Beast which I never really loved but other people swear by it so I'll give it another go. I haven't checked for online MP (I'm assuming not) but it is very two player friendly. If you've got a few extra bucks I'd say go for it if for no other reason than Sonic can be kind of fun at 2 am when you can't sleep and have nothing better to do.
I had no idea that Genesis had this many RPGs on it!
I have my genesis plugged into my tv. I reckons I have around 60 games. About 5 years ago I used to trawl through ebay to get new ones. Then I stopped.

I think I have played my genesis once in the last 5 years, when I moved house about 2 years ago, plugged it in and tested it.

I wish I had more time... Sigh.

Except sadly it doesn't have the best RPG that was on the Genesis, Shadowrun
I loved my MegaDrive. Had some of my favorite games of the generation on there. It even had that "better" version of Gain Ground that was not better (in fact, it was kinda not as good) but it was prettier. Also Eccho the Dolphin. Loves those games atthe time.

They are up to Volume 5 now I think with the collections, but I think you can get the games individually on DD places like GG, Steam etc can't you? They are like $3 or something. I'd totally get them if my backlog was not so depressing and I was pretty sure I'd never get back to playing them. :(

I'd recommend getting the "complete" pack on steam, has all the games in one package.

Also Shining Force is good
Someone needs to sell Rocket Knight Adventures.

not too happy with the collection on steam , they have ripped it apart totally , the emulator is barebones and does not support any online features , saving is crude and broken in games like shining force 2 .

if you have a console instead i would recommend getting , the sonic ultimate genesis collection
http://www.amazon.com/Sonic-Ultimate-Genesis-Collection-Playstation-3/dp/B001G33V8S/ref=pd_sim_vg_8
i have it on ps3 and its awesome, hd support, instant save , trophies , online vs,co-op , local as well

I got the complete pack on CDrom from Amazon and it was slighly less expensive than Steam, if that matters.

On a side note, what exactly is the point of Sonic? Sure, I enjoy playing it but I can never figure out if I'm playing it well!

If it has these on it :
Phantasy Star 4
Buck Rogers:Coutdown to Doomsday
Shining Force 1 + 2
Shining In The Darkness

PLAY!

If you don't get bored re-rolling, try min/maxing the 6 chars in Buck Rogers. It helps a little towards the end-game.
Pilot
2*Warriors
Tinker/Thief
2*Medics
Never failed yet to complete it!

I may be missing a few, I just got it yesterday, Quick Save feature is the best part BTW,

Fatal Labyrinth
Sword Of Vermillion
Landstalker
Shining Force 1 and 2
Light Crusader
Shining in the Darkness

There might be a few more. To be honest all I've been playing since I got it is Streets of Rage 1&2 which oddly enough I never really enjoyed when I was in high school playing it on a real Genesis.
Fatal Labyrinth isn't that good, TBH. It's....kinda like Gauntlet. One life. Need foods. Fairly repetetetetetive mazes.

SoV is fairly good. Drags a little at the start, but then, what game doesn't? :P

Don't know about Landstalker. Or Light Crusader.

SitD is awesome!

HAHAHA
A lot of these aren't that good (there are some shooters on here that belong in a landfill with the 2600 E.T.) but for $3 (not including shipping), no DRM, full graphic/game pad customization, and quick save I still think it's worth it.
