I tried to read it and couldn't. I hear it's a much better experience if you listen to it.

I've heard this a few times. I could imagine listening to it would be akin to passing down a verbal history. And you're not the first person I know of that found it a chore to read. I don't know what it is about it, but it's one of those odd collections that just "clicked" for me. I can still remember sitting outside on my deck, beverage near at hand and sun quickly setting, engrossed in this one - it went beyond book to experience for me.
