Actually I agree with you. If you want something JUST because it's rare, something is wrong with you. My rare games are games I really enjoyed. Touché The Fifth Musketeer was an underrated adventure game that was a lot of great fun. Other more rare games I own are classics too. I'm glad that the most hard-to-find ones are pretty crap - Neverhood for example.

Apparently the game IS very good. I dunno, it's kinda like Myst, and I hate Myst.

Anyway, if the guy wanted to pay $550 for it, then let him. It IS his money and who am I to tell him what to do with it, ya know?

It's about more than just having it, it's about looking through the box, seeing the art, seeing how they advertised it, feeling the texture. I love looking through my old PC big boxes and reminiscing, or just seeing all four Fallout games lined up on the shelf. It's a nice collector feeling like having a complete run of a comic book series (even if some issues suck) or having all of Ridley Scott's movies lined up by year (even if some of them suck).

I think if you collect EVERYTHING then there is something wrong with you, or if you collect useless things. That is hoarding. Loving PC games and collecting them in their original boxes though? Nothing wrong with that.

I love collecting old mags (although it has become VERY hard to do these days) and one of the reasons, is that a mag is like traveling back in time. Game boxes are cool and all, but you mostly just have the manual, disks and maybe an old catalog from the publisher and I have most several times. I find mags are much more enjoyable to read through and to have and they cost way less to buy.
I think these sort of auctions just show how important it is to sometimes port old games to new systems and how important GOG.com is

Planescape Torment boxed must cost a fortune...and yet its right here for 10 bucks

regardless, grats on the successful auction! :)

It used to be quite expensive - at $50 or so which is still rather low - but it's gone down a little since GOG started selling it, oddly enough.
