15,504 ways to play!

Decisions, decisions, decisions. Once the holiday season gets closer, you have to decide what gifts to buy, what wrapping to use, which phone numbers to accidentally delete. There are many decisions to make as you get ready for the holidays, but one decision that we’re making easy for you is, “Should I buy anything from GOG.com’s Black Friday sale?” (The answer is “yes”, by the way. ;) Not only are we launching the sale early--in case you spend Friday in a turkey-induced coma--but we’re also giving you the power to pick your own promo!

In our Pick 5 & Pay $10 sale you pick 5 out of twenty fantastic indie games and pay $10 for them regardless of the game’s regular full price. That's $2 per game, for such titles like Torchlight, Resonance, Alan Wake's American Nightmare, Botanicula, Geneforge 1-5, Uplink, To the Moon, and many others. Seven of these games are both PC and Mac compatible, so everyone can enjoy!

The games are fantastic--and there are so many of them! That's why we started this sale early: to give you time to pick your dream-set of 5 games out of 15,504 possible combinations. You could look at this as another decision you have to make this year, but unlike trying to figure out who you should sit next to your slightly crazy uncle at Thanksgiving dinner, this one’s fun!

Black Friday marks the start of the “shopping season” for the holidays, so don’t forget to buy the gift of GOG for a gamer you love--or even just kind of like. You can’t spread much more holiday joy than this for just $10.
araisikewai, Johnmourby - Thanks guys. I guess I'll go with To The Moon, Blackwell Bundle and Symphony.
Good promo to pick up the indies I missed I guess. I got Resonance, Botanicula, To the Moon, Blackwell and Anomaly Warzone earth.

mondo84: ... LOL which one is it? Should GOG stand by their earlier stance or should they evolve? No matter what they choose people criticize them for giving in, going back on their word, etc. ...
Probably the world has not gone crazy, but it's just different kind of people who complain about prices too high and about discounts too large.

I for myself stand on the side of GOG finding such high discounts crazy. I see regular price cuts as the only option of ending this unfortunate development.
Awesome. It was a difficult choice, but I bought:

- To the Moon
- Alan's Wake American Nightmare
- Blackwell Bundle
- Torchlight
- Symphony

I was pondering on whether I should get Geneforge 1-5 instead of Symphony, but these days, something casual and 'upbeat' is needed more than in-depth story and game play.

Thanks for the great promo GoG. ^_^

Well, I see the same people raising a fuss in almost every sale or release thread....those who have complained about GOG's insufficient discount rates in the past, now complaining that GOG has gone back on their word, even though this is what they demanded.

It's beyond any semblance of logic or reason. Just a compulsive need to find fault and complain.
Wish you could add multiple copies of the same game to gift to people.

SimonG: Maybe I'm over-sensitive, but my job is going through pages and pages of BS each day to find hidden agendas, real motivations and all that. Makes you very critical of what people say.
You remind me of my sister Simon. You can't say a word to her without her trying to find some hidden meaning behind it, or do anything for her without her thinking you have some personal goal in mind. It's alienated her from most of her family and friends. People just don't want to be around her, as the stress goes through the roof. The constant negativity just gets to you.

People aren't stupid. They know GoG changed their policy on sales. But they are happy about it. People, and most especially businesses, change their minds all the time. GoG wasn't trying to be sneaky or two-faced, they just adapted to the market. And it's a good thing for their customers, so just be happy about it. :)
This is one of those deals that has games that I want, but it makes 'em too cheap, so I'd feel bad if I bought 'em at that price -_-

I am not aware of anyone right now but I think I see a spark of logic. You can complain about release prices too high and about discounts too high and remain coherent. If release prices would be lower, then discounts would be lower too assumed that the absolute sales' prices remain unchanged. I think this is understandable.
Great sale with an awesome choice of games. Like the Wadjeteye games. Well done!

I bought Shadow Warrior at full price and I felt like I underpaid, I love that game a lot. Since value is subjective, maybe GOG should just add that PWYW slider for every purchase with the base/sale price being the minimum, and let us pay them and the developers a little extra for those games we value more.
Interesting promo and VERY interesting discussion! Wow!! :D

I think this is a decent promo, which maybe for me lacks additional choices (not that 20 picks are not plenty to choose from; it's just me and my intricate tastes), and I have no doubt some games here definitely deliver their worth for the $ 2,00 price tag. I am mildly curious about To the Moon and Spacechem, but not enough in any others (yet) to pay the full $ 10,00.

I consider gaming a trivial, time-waster kind of thing, except for games which really deliver in apartments of compelling, well developed storyline and/or pure, joyful gameplay that is more or less thorough. Which is not very common. In fact, it is quite rare. For almost everything that is trivial, I refuse to pay more than I value it (that is, not very much). For what is not, I gladly give.

I suppose it would be logical to expect that indie games generally have more depth to them than mainstream releases. I might re-evaluate this promotion until it runs out.

I do not know if the staff actually reads through all the comments and actually considers what is being said, but anyway, I would repeat (for the second and last time) the one thing I believe should be considered - to implement more flexible regular pricing.

While I am until this point quite satisfied with my purchases (I have 53 non-free games on my digital shelf and wow, I find it downright outrageous how much I bought on a relatively short term as a very casual gamer; I suppose that the discounts did their thing), I must admit that when I visited GoG the first time, I was repelled by the prices. Everything either 5,99 or 9,99? Really?
It took me months to return and register, mainly because I wanted some of my favorite classics properly set for the Dosbox emulation and not requiring the CD to run, and because I am happy to support the site that does not walk hand-in-hand with the often draconian DRM policies, as obviously so many others.

I know, value is a subjective ratio, but certainly there are titles that would benefit from lower regular prices. I will take Master of Orion 3 as an example. I am somewhat interested, but the reviews everywhere speak volumes for themselves. That is why I doubt that it is very popular in terms of sales and why there is no way I would be willing to part with 9,99 $ for the game. I would buy it only at a huge discount (more than 90% and it wouldn't be much of an income, I know, but it is still a profit for the license holder and better than nothing... now multiply that by at least a gazillion of people who would buy it that cheap). It was discounted not long ago, but was still overpriced from my viewpoint (60% off, I think) and by the time it gets the discount that will spark my interest (if ever), I might no longer care.
I believe that situation is similar with a considerable number of available games.

On the other hand, from what I read, I conclude that there weren't quite as many promos before. I want to say that I find all the promoting in the recent months very positive. In my case, without the numerous promotions, I would definitely buy some of the games I bought discounted at a later time (likely I would wait for considerable discounts as well; I find discounted prices to be more realistic in most cases, I must say), but certainly never quite so many, and that during a much longer period.

Oh well... just my 599 cents... :D

mondo84: People complain GOG's sales aren't good enough.

GOG has better sales with higher discounts.

People complain that GOG is going with the flow.

LOL which one is it? Should GOG stand by their earlier stance or should they evolve? No matter what they choose people criticize them for giving in, going back on their word, etc.

There's just no logic in the big picture of the complaints. Only a strange need to raise a stink every time GOG makes an announcement, releases a game, or has a sale.
Well, keep in mind that, with so many different people here, you're going to get a variety of opinions anyway! Some people love the big sales, others are concerned that these big sales will devalue games and such - and thus bickering commences.

I'd suggest that these "stinks" are just a few vocal people creating a lots of posts.

So just buy a bunch of batches of gift codes, but instead of giving the extras away, hoard them like an old lady and her cats. That way, you're able to give more to the devs without diluting the market, AND you get a whole bunch of adorable kitties!
Argh. I do not have 6 games on this promo.

Is there any way to get 6 for... 12 dollars? 14? =D
