I have System Shock 2 on cd, and it is a tough one to get running on Windows 7 64 bit. Not impossible but tough. I had to make several system tweaks and had to download and install a user made mod. I'm never that comfortable installing mods...because it could possibly contain malware. But anyway, this mod for SS2 seemed to make it run very well on my computer regardless, and of course, it was malware free.

Just wondering if GOG is going to make SS2 available for all OS's, as GOG usually makes only mod-less games available (with the exception of DK2---and that mod took awhile to appear on GOG).

Also, does anybody know if SS1 maybe available for download as well?
In september when that new patch was released for widescreen and whatnot I installed the demo, installed the patch and then I could play, no fuss required. I think the SS2 tool has been a lot of help as it now includes NewDark and updates the game in case it doesn't have the official patches. I also think they offer a MD5 checksum to make sure you received the right file so no worries about malware and if you're VirusTotal is an excellent site to check that.

As for System Shock 1, I think TET mentioned it's only SS2 for now but I know there's something called System Shock Portable with some modernizing and extra features and it works alright but I think it's illegal as it contains the entire game so it's up to you if you think it's worth it. FYI, I don't think developer would care if you already own a legal copy.
Read the RockPaperShotgun article, the Night Dive team have fixed it to work on modern operating systems.

Yes, I am using System Shock Portable and for me it works like a charm (Windows XP).

I had also purchased the big box EA Classics release in store. Which I still own, so I thought it's acceptable to take advantage of the Portable version which works with DosBox.

For me it seems like everything I download has to be run in compatibility mode, some modern games included, so chances are System Shock 2 I'll have to do the same thing. As far as mods, I don't know any, but I heard that one was released just a couple months ago.

Found the mod in my download file. It is called SS2 tool version 3.36. After running that, system shock 2 runs like a charm.

I googled about the tool when I heard SS2 was arriving here, the latest version is 4.7 and it includes NewDark, that patch that arrived in September so you know.
Works fine for me both 2.23 and 2.24 versions.

EDIT out of the box no compat modes or anything, just the patch/es

BTW its installed on the C drive, not Programme Files...etc.

Yep, it's illegal, and TET already warned someone about posting a link I think.
