I remember the music picking up and slowing down for fights, made me feel like I was in Star Wars back then (I WAS A KID) but the best thing was when I turtled/porced up so much I could launch 20+ nukes all at the same time. THAT WAS EPICNESS!!!!!!! No music can beat that, RAWWRRR NUKE U!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Some much for Impulse exclusivity, then. Steam next week?
Just a warning:
The GamersGate version is the old, original version. No modern OS support (it may run, but it does not use the modified launcher that Stardock created for increased compatibility), no high-resolution support, and no upcoming patches with neat new features. I'm not even sure if the music has been included as mp3s.

Hmm that's interesting. The Stardock news release had said that they were going to work on enhancing it for, among other reasons, future release on other digital platforms. I was rather happy to hear that because I tend to prefer Steam over Impulse. I wonder what's up with GG's use of an unmodified TA.
Say, I've visited different sites for maps, including Ratpacker's great site and TAMEC. But a lot of the time even if you can find a map, the link is dead. This especially sucks when you want to play an old favorite map or watch a TAD game replay and need the map for it.
Anybody got any other good favorite map site with a lot of the super old school maps? One I can think of is Mesopotamia, which I can't find anywhere. I did find Micro TA Machines, which was a blast. And Deep Space Array. Haven't found Core Prime Industrial Area yet.
So many of the maps are now in packs listed under just the author's name, and I'd rather not download 2000 maps just to find a few I might remember or see listed on the TADS site.
It is on GamersGate right now for under $5.00 but it has SecuRom on it. No sale. I will wait for GOG to get it.

Thanks for the heads up. I think I'll wait for a sale on the Impulse version.

Given the fact that we'll never see any D&D games on GOG, TA is now the sweetest thing Atari could bring to GOG.

melchiz: According to people on the Impulse forums, you can get the game to play the music:
1) Burn the mP3s (the Impulse version comes with the soundtrack on mp3) onto a CD-R in audio CD format, but make sure to leave a filler track as track 1, since that is traditionally the data track
2) Insert the CD into your drive and boot up the game
3) The game will access the CD and load the correct music as it wishes

I wonder if the original TA CD could fulfill this same task...An interesting cooperation between boxed and digital copies.

It also looks like there's no Core Contingency pack. That's a must have (Battle Tactics is not as important).

True, true!
Luckily you can get all the Cavedog units without buying Battle Tactics.
