Here's a thing that has been nagging on the back of my brain for years and years. I've been on many different projects, but a dream of mine is still to create a modern day remake of one of the most awesome, innovative game of all time: Terra Nova: Strike Force Centauri. Released in 1996, the game had huge landscapes, squad oriented gameplay, classes, weapon loadouts and full motion video. Gameplaywise, it was definatly way ahead of it's time. However, by then real 3D engines (like Quake) started appearing and the visuals were outdated by the time the game hit the shelves.

I've seen this title on many, many lists of "What game should they remake"-threads, so I know there are other fans out there who would love to see Terra Nova see some light again. I see a good number of people requesting the game here on GOG as well. Concerning engine's, UDK or Crysis might be the best for it, since you'll need large landscapes. Source might have some trouble handling that.

As for legal issues: Looking Glass Studios (the designers of TN) went bankrupt in 2000. The game was self-published, so it's currently unknown who holds the rights to the game. The rights to the name Terra Nova: SFC were not renewed and ended in 2004, so I doubt anyone is looking after it now. Should be safe to develop it as a free MOD.

I don't know how many developers or artists visit these forums but would anyone be interested in helping setting up a team to make this happen?

Here's something I drew for fun :)

This looks very cool! Oh how I remember this game soooo well... The atmoshere was just perfect and the graphics for the time were (although even for that time very low res) very good!

Why not start something on Kickstarter????

Because you don't even have any working team, no work done to show, and you would lose credibility if you decided to start the same thing on kickstarter in the future?

Eeurrhmmm.... true true... ;-)
Kickstarter wouldn't really do any good. I don't need any money to pull this one off, just need people who love Terra Nova as much as I do and are also able to develop games. Unless I hire people to create stuff for me, but I'd like to keep this a free fan project.
