Growing up through the days of nuclear winter hysteria and being indoctrinated into having a tangible "enemy" in another nation, I was fascinated by this show. Now two seasons in I continue to find it the best show on TV. Long story short and some spoilerish stuff if you havent seen it yet...

One of the Russian agents was sent back to Moscow for "trial". The show portrayed everyone (Russian) knowing the end result was going to be execution. I am curious, was there this underlying feeling that if you stepped out of line things would go badly in 70's-80's USSR? I assume there must have been something like that as people took the time to revolt against it years later but what do I know? So if youre Russian (or former Soviet more specifically), and you are at least 40ish... I would love to hear what you thought at the time.

Given there may not be a lot of folks that fit the bill for what I am looking for, would be just as curious to hear stories/thoughts of parents/grandparents of the time.
