We did Metal, Pop, and Hip-Hop threads now lets do one for Classical Music.

Now I was gonna say do not post Classical Music from movies like John Williams or Games like God of War but I don't know if most of you guys ever heard of original ones that are not made for a movie or game or not, so post whatever you like.

The Toccata and Fugue played by my favorite conductor Leopold Stokowski

Crap, Chrome crashed right after posting. Well, here goes again:

Perhaps my favourite classical piece:

I must admit though that I did hear it in a video game for the first time (Wargasm).

For a Pole it's of course a obligatory to love Chopin. :P Nah, I actually really love some of his pieces. Bought a few CDs a couple of months ago and one piece literally made me cry (this one's not it, though).

I also absolutely love Rob Dougan's album Furious Angels. It's obviously not classical music per se but almost all tracks have an orchestral arrangement and some of them do actually use compositions by classical composers including Chopin.

God, I've listened the crap out of this album...

Rachmaninov, The Miserly Knight; I have this on DVD, and liked it. It's quite short for an opera, so go ahead and watch it already!

(alas, I'm not music-literate enough to go beyond "I liked it" in terms of why you might or might not like it yourself.)

And obviously if you've never seen The Firebird you should be ashamed of yourself.

(link to an old recording, so sound quality could be better, but hell man, just listen to the thing!)

I like a lot of classical music. The usual suspects (Beethoven, Mozart, Bach as well as many others such as Berlioz, Rachmaninoff, Tchaikovsky, etc. etc.) and I'm a sucker for cello. I have a couple albums by Ofra Harnoy that I really like.

Also like a number of opera pieces.
Have you guys heard Tori Amos' recent Night of Hunters album? It was released on the famous classical label Deutsche-Grammophon and won a German ECHO classical music award.

Telegraph article

The album is a pop/classical crossover that actually works. Each of the songs is a variation on an established piece of classical music.

Info, plus listing of the reference material

Here's an example of one of my favorite songs on the album, Fearlessness (a variation on Orientale from 12 Spanish Dances by Granados)

Fearlessness (live in Warsaw 2011)

I can't listen to this at the moment, but the idea of genre crossover reminds me that people should check out the East Village Opera Company
