Aw, but if flaming is actually on topic then it's no fun anymore :P
Probably a good idea though.
To continue the discussion from this thread:
Why should we care about how much you pay for video games?
Why should you care about how much we pay for video games?

Which was my point exactly. Human nature: When you get the advantage, you have no logical reason to care about those who are treated worse. If you get the shit end of the stick on the other hand, you have plenty of reason to be annoyed at those who gave it to you.
I'm not questioning your logic, I'm just pointing out the reason why you are happy with the current situation in the DD market: Because you get the advantage. Likewise, I have no reason to complain about the global pricing or availability of brunost.

Why bother with a thread like this?
You might as well partition urban areas to include a "safe crime zone."
"Okay you crooks, you are allowed to rob people, but ONLY WITHIN THESE 4 BLOCKS."

You mean kinda like having a specific area for sex-based business transactions, or perhaps particular buildings for the sale and consumption of alcohol?

That assumes that arguments/flames/whathaveyou are controlled, organized efforts. A flame is more akin to a mugging than a casual drink at a bar.

I was assuming that was the point of this thread, to be more controlled and organised. However, it won't stop it happening elsewhere. Much like prostitution or drinking in my previous (tongue in cheek) example above.
I expect this thread won't be used too often, because even flame wars need fuel. A good example might be oblivion or steam. They do get mentioned quite a lot in other threads, even if it means derailing an otherwise civil discussion. We even have a specific steam hatred thread no less, and yet we still get other ones. Even my hatred of both steam and oblivion has some limits...

Allow me the following:
I enjoyed Oblivion far more than Morrowind. In fact, I found Morrowind to be relatively lifeless.

See, now we can get the flaming started. Although this argument is perhaps a touch on the old side.
Although I agree with you in general about the lifelessness, the levelling was horrific, the change to the speechcraft was awful (it did need changing, but not like that) and the lockpicking "mini-game" I found a complete waste of my time.
There's some sort of middle ground that I'd like to see the next Elder Scrolls game take, although it will probably just be very similar to Oblivion but with some tweaks (as in Fallout 3).
Also, may I throw in that I reckon the golden age of cRPGs is long past, and perhaps ended around 2001-2002. The Ultima series, Baldur's Gate, etc. even Dragon age doesn't quite come up to that standard for me.
Oh and I preferred Storm of Zehir to Mask of the Betrayer.
Flame away!

Andy_Panthro: Oh and I preferred Storm of Zehir to Mask of the Betrayer.

Have you no soul?
Are you a bigot, sir? Do you not love rainbow bears? Mask of the Betrayer is superb. Nay, it is bliss. How you could prefer some lame tactical map to a womanizing dream sage is beyond me.

Haha I like this. Andy I think you struck a chord!

It is true I have no love for rainbow bears, but I am no bigot, but a man of Science!
My love of SoZ is due to its ability to find the usefulness in every persons talents, indeed it could be used as a metaphor for a socialist utopia. It's snaky themes remind me of the sublime Ultima VII: Serpent Isle, and it is the template I would wish for any forthcoming D&D games (whoever may be making them).
Your MotB, whilst entertaining in characterisation, forces the player down a singular path, where certain characters are excluded through no fault of their own, like some sort of dictatorship. Indeed, you are presented with such a small amount of choice in companions, you must only choose from certain classes in order to complement adequately. Also, it has the spirit meter.
avatar
Andy_Panthro: Also, it has the spirit meter.

I was once a fool who found naught but sorrow in the Spirit Meter. Then, I found this:

How you could prefer a womanising dream sage to the ever alluring Kaelyn The Dove will perplex me forever. (Damn I need to fix my laptop, I wanna get SoZ)
The spirit meter in MotB was one of the best features of the game, it actually gave you something NEW to contend with rather than just management of health potions, a slight deviation from the copy/paste baldurs gate template. No wonder people didn't like it, it was scary and new...

I didn't have a problem until some boss fight that set my spirit meter to INSTANT DEATH 24/7.

The principle of the spirit meter was fine, it was the execution that was poor. I'm sure if it was modified a bit, then it might be better.
