I don't know about you but i'm getting pretty excited bout the next/coming years in gaming, as there seem to be a lot of stuff going on. First we have the more and more powerful consoles and demanding games for them which are said to be too expensive too make much of a profit, which will probably lead to a simplification and mass appeal agenda in making of these games. On the other hand, phenomena like kickstarter are all of a sudden getting a huge amount of intererst and medial coverage and sites like humble bundle are also getting bigger. This together with the fact that walking dead the game won game of the year award in this year's spike awards seems to indicate that interests in games are more and more leaning towards more unique and daring projects as well as some more hard core and "back to basics" stuff which i'm getting escpecially hyped about. So what do you guys think? will there be some major changes in gaming in the near future and what are you most excited about?
Those new games sure ARE complex (graphics). I saw that GTA5 and some of the (new) Resident Evil ingame footage and I was like, wow, anyone playing this stuff should be in space or something.

Personally, I hoping for open source fully moddable games with all tools included. Nothing half-@ss. Something professional. I'd like to pay $10. Creating your own games, I'd hope that would be the future...but maybe in 40 years or so. You know, you have to wait for the chips, then the case, then the OS, then maybe you can get a game that doesn't insult your intelligence or have some type of religious crap in it.

Also would like new controller setups. Like I prefer the keyboard/mouse for FPS games, but then fighting games become impossible. Never really found the Playstation type controllers to cool either. Probably won't get that either.

Uhhhhh, I can't wait for games on the new iPad2/tablet PCs or smart phones! Windows 8 is looking HOT, and even grandma is playing Resident Evil!
I believe PC gaming will heavily close the gap on consoles in the next generation. Most mainstream titles have PC versions nowadays, and as computers get more user-friendly and people get used to technology it's a natural thing that many people won't bother buying consoles anymore...

And I won't even start talking about the library of games available for PC and comparing to any other plataform because that's just cruel...
My beef is that gaming is no longer simple anymore, I miss the good old days of going to a store and pay the game in cash.

But sadly:

DIGITAL IS THE FUTURES HURR DURRS!11!

Yeah unless the website gets hacked and people gets you information.

In the olden days you had work to steal, now its at the push of a button.

Yeah, but if you can get all you can eat games for 10 bucks a month, like Netflix, will you care? DD can end up good or bad. The part I worry about the most is archival.

Can you explain that part?

Making sure the video games remain in an accessible and playable state to the vast majority of society. Depending on the DD DRM involved this may or may not be a challenge. Netcode never being released in any form (server side code) is also a serious issue beyond the basic idea of DRM.
