The GOG office should buy it for their "Archives" =)
Well, with a £50 starting price you don't really need a reserve, do you?
most puzzles involve the multitude of inventory items that can be found

In other words...
"I can't use those things together."
"I can't use those things together."
"I can't use those things together."
"I can't use those things together."
"I can't use those things together."
£50 really does seem a bit overpriced for a PC game; even for a rare one. This is just one poor student's opinion of course. Otherwise, I am very interested in collecting old games, but I usually pick them up for cheap at the local flea market.

Is the Gene Machine any good? I've heard of it, and I'm a big fan of adventure games, but I haven't played it.

Ouch >_<. I feel sorry for the poor sod who had to pay that price.
It's a well-done adventure game. Doesn't stand out in terms of gameplay or setting, but its strong points are hand-painted backgrounds and a celebration of everything British, including the main character who looks and sounds like Phileas Fogg. It's been many years since I played that game, but I do remember it fondly. It wasn't overly difficult or obscure; just a matter of using the right logic.

This is the second time I follow a link to a rare game being sold on ebay from here and it is the same game as last time...

Once is happenstance, twice is coincidence, but three times is spam ;-)
