I think you need to use connection. I know some people frown upon nepotism but in this economic era where good jobs are scarce we really need to do everything to get good enough income. Also since you're from US when you're desperate enough you can always join the army....

I suggest you write your resumes and go to the job interview with a smug, self confident yet charismatic and utterly charming attitude.

Most bosses want winners as employees, as long as they aren't sadistic and want to abuse you as emotional punching bag they want charismatic winners with passion. Sparkling eyes and charming personality in combination with humour and confidence, try to let that shine through your resume and it might get you a chance for a job interview where you can back up that words.

The best advice I can give is to not bet on a single one thing. Sign up at multiple agencies (the translator told me that was the correct word) so that you get something sooner. It's likely they won't get you much at first, either money- or time-wise, but it'll be something, but often there will be something long-term that pays decently, and if you do a good job on something temporary, the employer will get back in touch with you himself later on. So basically my second tip would be not to half-ass anything and give it your all on whatever you get, no matter how temporary it is. Besides, you might meet someone who could get you a job somewhere else, and thus you're building connections as well along the way, expanding your network and further increasing your chances of a full-time job that you want.

Oh, btw, do you plan to stay in this city?
Don't take this question lightly. Answers as: "It's ok. I plan on driving every day." Do not count as positive. People been rejected based on that answer alone.
