s23021536: Now there's a name I haven't heard in a good while. Such good memories:
TStael: +1 - as this is a rare and most happy recognition indeed to those drunken but great student nights of mine where some unexpected, ever so slight change of the wind forced one to come to terms with the concept of a fair loser!
In case someone blasted away my beloved Tummy of Steel - named for me by a good friend - this possibly was rather hard...I named his Adorable Lutin - maybe I was not so fair there, eh... But I think I won that round, so hey-ho!
Must ask: did you develop a personalized tank to take into all battles, per chance? And also: might you be aware of any version of the 2D you could point me to?
Been to Jo'burg and Cape Town once - loved Cape Town area in particular, though could not afford a most cute impala hand-bag at the time, sadly...
Edit: grammar.
Uhm, I vaguely recall being able to play with a custom tank - I was about 8 or 9 when I played it
many years ago :-)
I remember the weapons best, like the 'death head' I believe it was, the MIRV and that projectile that created a pool of lava (absolutely devastating if you could fire that into a narrow valley containing a tank)
It appears that there is an official website for the game along where you can download of all the official versions :
http://www.whicken.com/scorch/index.html Any of them should work fine with dosbox. Apart from that site, some version(s) of the game is also on abandonia and abandonware. In fact I feel like installing it right after I post this reply =D
Cool to hear that you've been to Cape Town :) It, and the Western Cape in particular, are lovely. Probably the nicest place to live in SA. I'm living in Pretoria myself, which is perhaps just as well, as relative to Cape Town it is closer to the eastern Drakensberg, Blyde River Canyon and the Kruger National Park, which I much prefer nature-wise.
Sorry to hear about the impala handbag - Africa themed Items aimed at tourists are sometimes a bit overpriced :P
A good idea I think is to ask people in the area where your staying when and where the big flea markets are.
