Alright, I'm calling this closed, so no other entries are allowed from this post. Tonight I'll announce winners and let you guys know about how the tournament went (I may even be able to get video for you guys in a couple weeks). For those who have already entered, please tell me if you want to announce and tell stories in a new thread or in this one. See you guys tonight.

Just keep it in this thread. I think the action should be kept with the game ;)
I agree with SirEyeball.

Okay, and before I tell the winners I'll tell you guys how I did at the tournament. Turns out, we got a touch blind sighted. One of the fencers from Missouri University of Columbia was an A-Ranked Fencer (meaning, he competes on a national level and is probably as far up as you can get before hitting Olympic levels). Saber and Epee was one sided for everyone who fought him, though the other most experienced persons that went did have rankings up to D-Rank or C-Rank. I didn't have to fight him thankfully.

On that note, Saturday I fought in Epee in a collection of 19 fencers of 3 schools, and locals belonging to the club we were fighting in. I was on top of the freaking world. nobody could completely take me out without me getting some good points in myself. I fought two people from my club, one of them being the second-best of our group (We brought 18 people overall between the 3 sword types) and even managed to hit him twice, though it seems I'm trying to fight in a way above my skill level sadly (Specifically, I've tried to rely on sword flicks, meaning bending the sword around their defenses to get the point. If nothing else I still hurt their arm. Progress!). Then we got to the elimination matches. I was neck and neck for most of the fight, and I wasn't going to let him win easily. Then the score hit about 8-10 with me at the disadvantage, and I could still win as easily as he could. Then I managed to roll my left ankle, the same one I had been struggling to keep supported the weeks leading up to the tournament and had in fact rolled twice and twisted once in the two weeks before that weekend. My own club rushed in to help as the pain and shock had basically thrown everything out of me, enough that I was practically in tears trying to hold myself together. They called for me to have a 10 minute break to see if I could still fight, and for some reason I wasn't ready to quit. I got some advice from our ex-club president as to how to continue on just one strong ankle and got back into the fight. It's hard to fight when you can't move, so I was turned into a purely defensive fighter until he got close enough for me to make any move, and I managed to make two more points against him before he finished the match at 10-15. I finished at 18th place and won the applause and sympathy of everyone in the room, even my competitors, at taking the chance to keep fighting, and made two friends out of that match.

I wasn't sure I was going to be able to fight the next day, and I stayed long enough to watch the final matches (Short version is the A-Ranked fencer blew through everyone with only two fencers managing to nearly beat him. Good lord he was argumentative). I spent some time with my family, headed home to relax, and met back with my fencing club that night. Around that time my ankle was starting to relax a bit, and I decided I'd fight the next day as well, ankle be damned.

Come yesterday morning, nobody was sure I was going to do well. I surprised everyone somehow. I'm no where near the best, and foil is probably my weakest sword. Nobody got a 0-5 score against me though except for my club's second best. But I was fighting experts. I got two points against the coach of University of Central Missouri. And I got 2 points against a D-Rank foil fighter, a short and very speedy woman who had actually beaten my club's second best and gotten a silver medal for it last year. That alone surprised both my club president and my club's second best. Then I had to fight the ex club-president when we got to eliminations. I took two points quickly early on and matched him, but then he realized something about me that I hadn't, and kept me from scoring another point the rest of the match. Turns out that I have a really excellent upper defense (Called a 'Parry', along with the technique 'Sword Binding'), but my lower defense isn't developed, since most fencers aren't so skilled to take advantage of fighting that low, and I lost 2-15 to finish at 27th out of 29 fighters. But even on a bad ankle I was able to make it as difficult as possible for him to hit me. I gave him a fight, and there were about 5 times where I was just nearly off and didn't hit him (In foil, you are only allowed to hit the chest, no limbs or head). That was about the same thing that happened in Epee (Where the whole body is target) in my elimination match, but the foe was so skinny that when he turned my sword would graze off him during those final points. In short that's basically how the tournament went. I've surprised my own club with my persistence and my ability to fight through injury, and having some level of skill despite missing so much practice because of injuries (I had a nasty roll of my ankle in October just before the second tournament I was planning to go to). And while I still have a long way to go, it's looking like come time for the next tournament at my own school in the Fall, I'm going to be outright deadly if I keep it up.

Anyway, enough talk of swordplay, let's get to what you guys actually care about.

Azilut: Happy birthday, I'm in.
And you are our second prize giveaway out of what I counted to be 72 entrants (Not bad for a weekend). I have no idea how to make a goofy comment around your picture or username, so I'll just say that the next game you win from me is going to be attached to your beard so that you can wake up with a surprise.

These two get a $6 game of their choice, or up to $6 if they want to wait and try to take advantage of sales or discounts. Thank you everyone and I'm looking forward to see if people actually pause and read about my tournament weekend as opposed to just the prize winners.

QC:
Nice story (I read it completly). Keep going, because you're doing great, but keep an eye on that ankle, OK? You don't want to get a serious injury, again ;)

By the way, thanks again for your giveaway, and congratulations to the winners! ^_^
Congrats to the winners and thanks again QC.

Sorry to read about your injury, good luck on your next tournament. ;)

If you're interested, there was a lot of video taken, and I can see if I can get some of it in here on the forum when the club is able to get hold of it all.

I may have to make a new thread for it and it'll be a while before all the video is collected of course, but hopefully I should have something soon.
