Well, considering I really like the zombie genre and the fact that it's so well-liked, I decided to finally watch the first episode of The Walking Dead. I have to say, i really liked it. Then I started looking at the game. That it also very well-liked, I now want to get it and play it but I don't know where in the story the game takes place. Obviously, I don't want the show spoiled so I wanted to know if I can play the game without worry of spoilers that pertained to the show?

I would be grateful for any info on this. :)
I stop watching the show in Season 2 because I couldn't stand it anymore. Loved the comics.

The games are AWESOME. I don't care that they aren't proper PnC adventures. They are just a really great experience. Loving them, currently at episode 4.

Just two rules:

Never watch a single video about this game and never reload.
The game is a prequel to the show so it'll be fine to play it.
The game is the best thing made with the Walking Dead franchise. It is not a prequel or sequel to the series OR the comic, it is an alternate take, some of the characters are shared between the other incarnations, but the game is by far the better of them all.
The game is great. Like Simon said: don't reload, don't watch videos. The spoilers would simply be to big.

On your question: the game has an other story than the show. There are some characters (2 or 3) that also appear in the game, but they don't have much influence on the story, and their storyline in the game takes place before the show. Other than that, the story is completely different, but also great.
World War Z, coming in April/August? 2013.
Okay, so it's nothing like the book but the book is virtually un-filmable and the trailer looks great.

Oh, I realize this post has nothing to do with games. It's just when I see the word 'zombie' my short hairs stand up and begin to salivate. I'll try not to make a mess.
Thanks everyone. In that case, as soon as I'm able, I'll simply buy all 5 episodes and work through them.

I would rather buy the retail version that came out in the US a few days ago but theres no word on an EU release. :(

It's a Steamworks game, so no matter were you buy it (digitally), you'll play it on Steam.

During Christmas you will find it for 10 GBP somewhere, if not less. An insane deal for this game. Brilliant game.

It's not purely steamworks (or so it seems): it's also available on Origin and doesn't mention anything about Steam (I wonder why...). This is positive, though: the chance that it will appear here is larger.
Anybody else have a strong feeling we might see a TWD game announcement for GOG soon, possibly before the year ends?

Also, don't have hopes that any of your choices mean a god damn thing.

Don't get me wrong, it's a cool story. But it's more of a interactive comic, a visual novel, than a game.

And many japanese freeware visual novels are much less linear than this one.

You may play this game, and you may as well watch the playthrough on youtube - it doesn't change a thing....

I just finished episode 2 of the game and damn is it good! It may be better than the show. Hopefully the next 3 episodes can keep up the suspense/storytelling.

I can whole heartedly recommend the game.

Origin also sells steam version.

Actually it's a prequel to the comic, the show is it's own continuity and is coming out with it's own prequel... a shooter.

And yes, it's my own GOTY for 2012, by the end of it I cried twice and got so angry I almost broke my Q key bashing it even though one of the QTE's ended. The game itself is very basic, for me the difficulty comes in making emotionally hard decisions so in essence it's just a different type of gameplay that you won't often see in games.

As for an EU release I doubt there will be one, unfortunately telltale is a relatively small company compared to the heavy hitters. It only has limited ability to distribute without signing away it's soul to a publisher that will inevitably ruin it.
It is really good. I pre-ordered directly from TT. They did send out Steam keys because of some issues with their release, but it was sorted out pretty quickly.
