Trying to get back into the first one, so what should I do to interest myself?
There are lots of options, but it depends on several things:

- Are you starting a new character, or do you go back to an existing one?
- In case of the latter, which class, how far has he progressed, and what's your preferred skill set?
- What do you generally prefer in MMOs? Fighting, exploring, storyline, collecting ...

Level 11 Mesmer.
I like all variety in MMO, in other words, no aspect is my favourite, however I'll try explain my problem to help you decide further.
I quit before because the I got sick of the questing. It seemed repetitive to fight hordes of enemies with the same moves to get to another area. I like WoW so it's not the MMO gameplay, but I can't get the subscription atm. Just looking for some interesting alternatives or at least a way to make the questing more "fun" or "interesting".

Hmm. Do you have the other chapters available, or are you limited to the first one?

Generally, Guild Wars allows tons of different builds for each character class. You can switch secondary classes freely, and you can respec your character completely at any time for no cost - the only thing that you can't change is your main class.

However, the first part (Prophecies) is different from the others in that character progression is very slow, you are limited in the skills you get at the beginning (and therefore limited in the builds you can make), and you need to complete about 2/3 of the game before it allows you to switch secondary classes. The later installments (Factions, Nightfall, Eye of the North) all make this possible much earlier. You can switch chapters with the same character anytime, so if you have it available, I'd suggest to check out Factions, which gives you the most flexibility in skilling your character.

If you are limited to "Prophecies", then I'd suggest taking taxis to Lion's Arch and Droknar's Forge. Unlocking these two locations gives you much more flexibility in where to go, what to do, and how to skill your character. (You can also buy better armor there, though that might make the earlier areas too easy if you want to return to them.)

Also, if you like collecting / achievements, you can try to work on the many "title tracks" that the game offers.

I bought the trilogy so I can use any chapter except for the Eye of the North. Would switching chapters mean I miss out on most of the story though? ( though it's going pretty slow now)

The stories of the chapters are all completely independent of each other.

I would suggest to make a new character in Factions (you can't take your current character to other factions before he reached Lion's Arch). You won't lose much progress since Factions and Nightfall advance your character much quicker, so after 2-3 hours you should have a character that has surpassed your current one in flexibility.

Factions gives you the most freedom in choosing skills and gives you quick access to all other areas and chapters. Basically, you need to do two easy missions on the starter island, and then you get to Kaineng. There you can buy tons of different skills, and go quickly to the other two chapters. Each chapter offers some unique skills, so it's common to switch between chapters often.
