So, I guess Hell and Damnation is something of a remake with less content then the original but it is dressed up nicely with Unreal 3 engine visuals for an enjoyable gore-fest. Reports on the forums indicate the possibility the netcode for multiplayer sucks but I haven't tried it. I don't know as I care that much really. I'd be in it for the over the top single player fun with glorious updated graphics.

Anyone else tempted by the current sale on Steam where it's now $6.79.?

68 Steam achievements! lol

As a long time Painkiller fan, Hell and Damnation is the closest thing you'll get to the original game... the other 3 suck, and nearly killed the series... its worth it, go buy it enjoy it and be happy!

I think I will do that. It looks like a blast.

Play it free for the weekend and make a purchase decision after but before the sale ends. Who knows you may be able to play it out before the weekends up. ;-)

It's a short game so that would be easy to do but only the multiplayer is free for the weekend. I guess they are no fools. Everyone would do a playthrough and say, good enough! Thanks for the free game! lol
Have you played Black Edition? If not, I recommend to get that instead. I has twice the levels and still looks damn good.

And when they do add the rest of the levels to hell and damnation, it's possible you may have to pay extra for it. Hopefully it doesn't come to that

Thanks - I hadn't realized that it was MP only for free.
Actually I think the first chapter of the single player is available for free
Anyone know if the multiplayer includes bots if you want them? I asked about this on the Steam forum but figured I'd check here too.

It is. I was playing it yesterday. I'm not terribly impressed. Black still looks great today, though the gun that lets you make an enemy fight for you is a pretty fun addition, and the way they changed the story around makes things a little more interesting, but I'd still be hesitant at 75% off, much less 66% off.
here is my thinking... it cost the same as a matinee movie... if you get more than 2:00 hours of gameplay then you already made out better then going to the movies... right?

Sounds like the game is almost giving you money!
I justify everything with cost:time ratios...
if the cost of doing an arbitrary action is equal of greater to time investment in game then Game>Cost

Hence a new game thats $50 needs to provide me with at minimum 16 hours of enjoyment or its not worth it :)

Absolutely! I look at game prices the same way. As such, this shined up version of Painkiller looks good to me. And if they get their act together and fix the net code - bonus!

This.

There's no way I'd buy this for multiplayer, but it might be a fun way to play an old game that looks a bit... dated now. I don't mind bad graphics per se, but they can distract when you're used to much better visuals being considered "poorly" done.

Like Lou said, it's basically a completely free trial with the content of the whole game, if you can't fit in time to play it now, you didn't need to buy it anyway.
