While I am sure I am not the oldest member on this forum I am sure that I have been PC gaming since before a number of you were born. So I thought us geezers could band together an let the youngsters about some really Good Old Games and put up links to great games that are over 20 years old (pre 1993).

First up is Balance of Power.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Balance_of_Power_(video_game) )

This game is one of the best geo-political strategy games out there even today (granted it is a relatively small genre). The game is very short and deceptive simple but it is very difficult and has a lot of depth to it. The best way I can describe it is Lemonade Stand with nuclear weapons.

Can I ask how old? I use to play Lemonade Stand all the time; it came with the Apple\\ and was good enough untill I picked up Aztec which is really the only reason I got the stupid computer to begin with.
I'm only 24 years old, but.. :p

I really liked that game as a kid. That's all I got, since I was like 4 the last time I played it.

I am 30, still young by most standards, but a little old in the gaming community. My family got an Apple IIe when I was 5 and I have been gaming ever since.

Actually, the average gamer age is apparently around 30-35.

That's only 'cause us old fogeys have to lie about our gaming, otherwise we seem immature. :)

True but, I think that younger gamers are more active in the hobby. More time to play, be active in the gaming community, read up on gaming news and the like, and less time spent, let's say working, doing yard work, changing diapers, etc... My gaming habits are very different from when I was 23.

But the overall point of the post is that there are some great games from the early 80s and early 90s that are still fun and playable by today standards and due to the progresss of the internet many of them are possible to track down today (which may not have been possible say 10 years ago) and if you think of a N64 as "Old school" (The kids still say that don't they...) you might not know about them.

Few of my favorites

1989 -> The original Prince of Persia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prince_of_Persia_(1989_video_game)

Still my favorite PoP as well.

---

1991 -> "Lotus Turbo Challenge 2" Why games dont have this catchy soundtracks anymore? Along with Carmageddon 1, my favorite racing game. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kes7RQFnzk4

---

1987 -> "Airborne ranger" C64 awesomeness! Cant remember how young I was when I played this alot with friends C64. We never managed to get very far, but boy did we try a lot :)

---

1987 -> "International Karate +" The best fighting game ever, also one of my favorite soundtracks. Games really dont come much more fluid than this... Where my remake?! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lMAjObaTqzA
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3-Demon

Played this all the time on my dad's Compaq Portable, with its tiny little built-in green monochrome screen.
Moonstone: A Hard Days Knight -91

Also a game that is in serious need of having a remake.. Its almost silly, how much more brutal this game is than 99,5% of, well, any game these days :)
CycleKnight was one of my favs from when I was younger.
So, are you guys going to tell me to get off your lawn and wave your canes at me? :P

Yes! I would love to see a modern remake of Moonstone. I still play the Amiga version once in a while. It's still a fantastic game.
